Check out 2012 Draft Class and 2012 Draft Four likely signees are still playing in the College World Series and can not sign until their teams are out.

Hey, why does the Baseball America website for the Astros' draft pick signings show how much over/under slot they are in the aggregate with NO indication of the actual signing bonuses individually? That just makes no sense to me.
I would like to add that McCullers, Ruiz, Virant, and Hinojosa will either sign over slot or not sign. The Astros probably won't sign any of them until after college guys sign so the Astros know how much they can go over slot for the high schoolers.
The college World Series draftees are 2-61: Nolan Fontana - SS - Florida 7-219: Preston Tucker - OF - Florida 8-249: Tyler Heineman - C - UCLA 20-609: Michael Clark - LHP - Kent State I suspect that Fontana will sign at or slightly below slot. The unsigned HS draftees are 1-41: Lance McCullers - RHP 4-129: Rio Ruiz - 3B 11-339: Hunter Virant - LHP 26-789: C.J. Hinojosa - SS Methinks McCullers can sign right away. I don't see how waiting will help him. The longer McCullers waits; the better chances that both Virant and Hinojosa will sign.
I think all the college players sign below slot by a little. McCullers could sign now as his additional money comes from Correa, but he may be trying to pickup an extra hundred grand from the college kids. This signing bonus is his only guarantee and an extra one hundred grand saved at his age goes a long way towards retirement in case he busts/gets injured. Not that the other 2.5 million won't help.
Astros will wait on Virant and Hinojosa until all the first 10 rounders are signed or every last attempt is made. Not going to lose the McCullers slot money 1.2 mil on next years draft bonus money if they can avoid it.
McCullers is heading to Houston for something. Maybe to sign? "@LMcCullers_23: Houston is not a 4 hour flight from Tampa, sorry guys! Maybe soon though. About to take off! #tweetyoulater"
And unless I'm mistaken, the Astros supplemental pick isn't going to be around next year if McCullers doesn't sign. Meaning they just lose out on $1.2mil period if he goes to college, no compensation what so ever. I think Boras is going to play pretty serious hardball given his leverage here.
I read up on that on wikipedia and I couldn't find a direct answer. Under the old rules, compensation picks for unsigned supplemental round picks were given. I don't see why they would have changed that. I don't think we'd lose that pick next year.
I came. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Astros on the verge of signing supplemental first-rounder Lance McCullers Jr., who is headed to Houston for a physical. <a href="http://t.co/NAqqAgip" title="http://tinyurl.com/d7g4bm5">tinyurl.com/d7g4bm5</a></p>— Zachary Levine (@zacharylevine) <a href="https://twitter.com/zacharylevine/status/214385693282156544" data-datetime="2012-06-17T15:55:07+00:00">June 17, 2012</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I thought you DON'T receive compensation for not signing supplemental picks under the old rules, which is why teams would often draft easy to sign guys there. As for this year, I was under the impression if you don't sign your supplemental pick his slot value gets taken out from this year's budget only. This would prevent teams from basically throwing away the pick just to use, for example in the Astro's case the 1.2 million, on other picks.
That'll be my reaction if we get him for ~$2m. If he does get the going rate for 10-14 picks (~$2.5m) then Scola "he look okay" face. I.e. if they are going to give him his price, then his signing is inevitable. I'd love to see if they can squeeze some extra money from his deal to toss at Ruiz/Virant/Hinojosa
I looked it up: San Diego failed to sign Brett Austin with the 54th pick (1s) in the 2011 draft, they got the 55th pick in the 2012 draft as compensation.
Hm that is strange. I was always under the impression that's how it worked and I found this on wikipedia... Nice find though, repped for expanding my MLB Draft knowledge.
