Sorry not true. Rivers is a prima donna who has significant ego and attitude problems and probably will be unwilling for a couple of years to play defense. Or learn to drive in either direction. Or lose his tunnel vision. Or not be a chucker. The list is sooo long. He has the tools, but I doubt his drive to improve on the defensive side of the ball. At the combine he could not list one part of his game that he believed he needs to work on. That people is a really bad sign. Ego gone wild. Jones I have talked about before. He is a polar opposite to KG. KG exudes toughness, desire, meanness, sheer aggression, desire, and an unwillingness to accept defeat. Jones on the other hand is a marshmallow. If he has not developed those KG traits by now he never will. I doubt he will ever be a starting PF in this league.
KG is the perfect example of what Kevin Durant likes to call "fake toughness" He talks the talk, does all the meaningless crap to get his team pumped up, but then turns to fade away jumpers outside the paint because he doesn't like contact. Body KG up and he becomes significantly less effective. I seem to be among the minority that think PJ3 will become solid starting PF in this league. With that being said, he'll never reach anywhere remotely close to KG's level, IMO. however I do not believe he will bust.
The only way that PJ3 will suceed is if he becomes a LaMarcus Aldridge type player which is unlikley. I agree about KG being a fake tough guy. He never bangs, just talks, swears, yells, spits...etc.
Point well taken. And appreciated. But KG is a NBA hall of fame candidate who will make it in on the first vote. Nuff said.
You list reason that you don't like KG but PJIII has those qualities but 10 times worse. He does not like contact, he is not aggresive, he is a wall flower. Other than that he is and athletic freak. KG has shown a desire to take it to the basket hard, play in the paint, rebound, block shots etc... PJIII has stated that he sees himself as a small forward and at Baylor he shied away from contact. I find it odd that the very qualities that you say you dislike in one player exists 10 times in a player you like.
The only reason PJ3 looks like he belongs on a basketball court is his height. I believe wholeheartedly in the pick-up-game drafting mentality. You want people on your team that you don't want on the other team. This guy plays so soft and hes one of those bigs who loves to shoot from the outside. We've all played with that guy.
I really wants to have Henson to be on this team. Somehow I see some Mutombo in him. Skinny but tough!
