This could have something to do with pick #5 as well. Doesn't necessarily mean that this has to do with #2 only.
If we start hearing of more top picks working out here, then we'll no pretty much for sure that we are possibly trading up. If we were to trade up, i hope they would be looking at Beal instead of a bean pole like PJ'sIII.
Personally I am cool with MKG, TRob or Beal if we can get that high up. That would give us a real building block!
The reason I think we will actually move up this year compared to the last few years is: This year I think the Rockets are willing to give up ALOT to move up. Previously they said the price was too high..this year I think the Rockets are saying you can take anyone on our team plus a draft pick or two...your choice of combination..just give us your damn draft pick.
Agreed that all 3 are building block players. I actually had Beal and MKG as #2 and #3 in this draft. If MKG doesn't go #2, he won't go #3 either because the Wiz drafted Vesely and Singleton last year. That leaves Cleveland at #4 who has said publically they are keeping the pick. Assuming the Wiz grab Beal, Cleveland will take Barnes or MKG. If he somehow made it to Sac-town at #5 he's got to be the pick because he'd be BPA while also filling a big need for the Kings. So this has to be about the #2. He's probably gone at #4; definately at #5. but it's hard to see what the Rockets have that the Bobcats would want for #2. Our biggest asset is a player who plays the same position they drafted for just last year in Kemba.
Philly's front office is notoriously gun-shy. Don't even look at the gun (EDIT), let alone pull the trigger. That might finally change this year, although Doug Collins, from what I've read, wants to keep his core together. But he's been there a season (or two now?) and a lot of coaches want to see what they have (thinking, "I can do this! These are my guys!") before they break up their core.
Clutch if you want to know who it is that let me know just send me a private message. Since you get to be so close with the team so often you might know this person. This might help in letting you know the validity of what I have said here.
I was hoping you'd show up again. I want to believe you, dude! I read an article this morning from hoopshype. MKG talks about hating to lose (although it's a Wash. Post article, so he says the right things to them about being a playoff team if they draft him and such) http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...t-him-at-no-3/2012/06/14/gJQAe0IodV_blog.html Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has lost a total of 10 games in his past four seasons at Kentucky and St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, N.J. He won a state title as a sophomore in high school, a gold medal at the FIBA Under-17 world championships in Germany after his junior year and helped lead the Wildcats to an NCAA title as a freshman. “I want to win games,” Kidd-Gilchrist said last week in Chicago. “That’s what I’m about.” The prospect of joining a losing NBA team made Kidd-Gilchrist visibly ill, and he admitted that he would probably “cry some nights” if his team is consistently adding notches to the loss column. Unless a non-playoff team moves up to get him at No. 2, Kidd-Gilchrist is almost assured some rough times – but he doesn’t necessarily believe that is the case if the Wizards select him third overall. “I mean, with John [Wall] and Nene? I think it’s a playoff team,” Kidd-Gilchrist said, matter-of-factly, when asked how he would fit in Washington. Next season? “I mean, I guess. I think it’s a playoff team,” Kidd-Gilchrist said. The Wizards will bring in Kidd-Gilchrist for a workout on Friday at Verizon Center, as well as Duke guard Austin Rivers, Washington guard Terrence Ross and Tomas Satoransky of the Czech Republic. Kidd-Gilchrist would certainly give the Wizards another player who shares Wall’s intense desire to win. He also has a relationship with Wall after working out with him a few days last year in Lexington. Kidd-Gilchrist played on the same high school team as Cleveland point guard Kyrie Irving, who gave him some simple advice about the next level. “It’s a man’s league,” Kidd-Gilchrist said Irving told him. “That’s about it.”
Great article on MKG. You gotta love his winning attitude and spirit. Perhaps if we could trade for him this would be the player that gets us Dwight?? Or perhaps we keep him and line him up at SG in between Goran and Parons? ..... I think it is more likely we are seeing if he is acquirable to send to Orlando. I think we are doing most of Orlando's draft scouting for them at this point.
Doesn't make sense. Why doesn't Orlando scout him instead? They trust our scouting more than their own?
C'mon. That's silly wishful thinking and you know better. The Magic don't even have a GM at this point. No way we're doing anything for the Magic right now. I like MKG a lot, but who's to say that he's actually the guy the Rockets would trade up for? Just because we might have been granted a workout by his agents doesn't mean he's #2 on our board. Also, FWIW MKG also has a workout scheduled with the Blazers, who're currently sitting at #6 & #11. I do agree that there's a decent chance we'd move whoever we pick if we end up trading up. However I also think that at this point our odds of landing Dwight are a lot worse than they were at the deadline or if Otis Smith had stayed GM. Way too much uncertainty right now.
Hey, Ron from the G I really want to believe you, but MKG is working out in Washington today. Did you mean next Friday? http://instagr.am/p/L5kCqShINY/
I want what he's smoking. Cos there's like an 0.00001% chance of that happening, left field and a chance at that but from what has happened so far I'm not getting my hopes up.
I have been on this board a long time and there is one mathematical certainty I have found to be true at draft time and at the trade deadline. DRUG USE on the board goes up 90% during these two periods!!! Do they get out of rehab for a break to grace us with their theories. Most of the time, they are back at Betty Ford as soon as the trade deadline or draft passes as they tend to fade into the background. There are a few year round addicts the men in white coats have not picked up as of yet and they continue to grace us with their Lebron for a 2nd rounder ideas. Rest assured by the nations birthday, the paddy wagon will have rounded up most of the abusers and hauled them back to their little white cells and the board will return to normal conversations picking on DDakota or how Morris is the next Carmelo if McHale would just set him free. Until then.................
I'll give the person a call tonight or sometime this weekend to try to find out more. That person mentioned it to me casually in a conversation that they were expecting the two in town Thursday or Friday to work out with the Rockets. I thought this person said Friday and I was under the assumption that it was this week and not next. I'll check back in as soon as I can get more info.
UPDATE WITH NEW INFO: Ok here's the deal. My contact was specifically told that they were expecting Gilchrist this past week. This person doesn't know if Gilchrist cancelled on the Rockets or rescheduled, but that for certain the Rockets were expecting him in Houston for workouts. The workouts today ended up being Fab Melo and three other guys. Apparently there was a guy there that looked like he was mixed Hispanic and black, he had the height of a center / power forward, and had a ton of tattoos. This person didn't know the players name so they just described him physically. This description doesn't ring a bell to me about who that might be, but apparently he spent a very long time with the staff during the interview process and they seemed to be impressed with him. Also the Rockets should be working out 12 players on Monday. I know that isn't much on the draft front and sorry I don't have any more on Gilchrist, but I did find out something interesting that I don't think has been mentioned here. Sam Dalembert will not be back with the Rockets next season. Apparently he burned a ton of bridges with management at the end of the season and they don't want any part of him. Expect a buy out of his contract at about a million dollars.
