That's because you have no idea what you're talking about. Anyway...I saw Cain pitch a one-hitter against the Cubs in 2004. He is a master of location. Great pitcher.
Dominant pitching performances happen all the time in baseball, to good and bad teams, If you are gonna get whooped, may as well get to see history. I was rooting for the perfecto around the 7th inning. We were blown out of this game clean. First time i've ever got to watch a no hitter from start to finish. I missed the first half of our 6 pitcher no-no. And like most of houston, my power was out when Zambrano threw his bogus no hitter( thats one you actually can put an asterisk next to) I was one of the guys taking pot shot at the Astros the last two years, but the franchise has turned the corner back to being a respectable organization now. Anybody that is still ripping the Astros, isn't really an Astros fan. Although not perfect, Kerry Woods masterpiece is still the best game i've ever seen pitched.
There are some games where you've just got to tip your cap to the other guy. That was a pretty damn impressive performance last night by Cain. He's the kind of guy that goes about things the right way so I'm happy for him. Don't care that it came against my team. Our offense has been decent this year. It's not like he did it to last year's team with Bill Hall, Angel Sanchez, and Humberto Quintero in the lineup.
I think WAR is letting you down. I'd take Cain over Greinke any day of the week. Obviously Halladay has been the top RHP, prior to this season.
Cain is great, but I gotta go with Verlander. He's dominating AL hitting. I think he stuff is better too.
That is a tough call. Cain has been remarkably consistent since 2009, but last year Verlander was just nasty and he hasn't let up this year. Verlander gets the edge doing it in the AL, and last year was amazing. Matt Cain is very RoyO like with his numbers.
Relax big guy. Joke If it makes you feel better, here's a few texts I got from a couple of buddies in Houston this morning: "What happind? Down gawn out there and git a perfect game tossed aginst em or sumpthin? Or was Milo Hamilton so fed up with the strow's performance that he streaked during the 7th inning stretch?" and I liked this one too "I saw the epic fail that is the Ashtrows offense this morning. Would have never happened if they had Mitch Melusky or Terry Puhl in the lineup."
It only makes him feel better in that he's got much better grammer skills and a sense of humor. Ashtrows?
After Cain pitched in the 5th, I hoped he would finish with a no hitter. Still kind of shocked to watch the game thats pitched perfectly. Only 22 other times has it been done so its very rare.
This. This organization has taken pretty substantial steps forward in the past year. I actually have some enthusiasm about this club again for the first time since about '06. Matt Cain absolutely deserves all the credit for last night. We are not a team full of scrub hitters contrary to popular belief (anyone that has even modestly followed this year knows that).
