I don't disagree, I've never really been a fan of him. But at least we would have something to decide what direction we are going. Either Evans finds his place here or we let him expire and finally get a chance at a top 3 pick
Tells me it didn't work out there. That's it. Plenty of players have worked out better on their second teams. There is this guy named Lowry and this other guy named Dragic that were traded as well...seems they have played just fine for their second teams.
The circumstances couldn't be any more different. Lowry and Dragic were traded by teams that had already committed to other players at the PG position. Reke is being shopped because he failed. Pure and simple. Plus, most anyone that's seen him play much knows why the Kings are giving up on him. Don't blame them and don't want him on the Rockets. The so-called "high potential" some people think he has is fantasy based off his rookie stat line on a junk team.
It doesn't matter though, teams give up on players sometimes. It happens for a bevy of reasons, also I'm willing to bet that the Suns wish they'd had Dragic back... This guy named Chris Webber, two teams gave up on him. I think it is silly to say a 22 year old player who has won ROY doesn't have it any more or that his career can't be turned around. All it takes is good coaching or hell just a coach that he respects and is willing to give his all for. Also from NBA players own testimonies, it really sucks playing on a losing team with no hope to do anything. Evans could simply be a guy who would be more motivated and focus on a winning team. It's easier to be a selfish player when you know your team is going to lose any ways. Evans has actually not been that much of a ball hog recently...the Kings still lose. So it doesn't matter either way. It's been a unstable team for years now with seemingly no direction.
Also Dragic was not wanted by his team any more. Lets not spin that. Suns fans were getting frustrated with him because he played out of control. We even saw that here when we first got him. He played with little control and his mindset changed and then he looked like a MUCH better player. There is no telling that Evans would get on a better team, see he actually has a chance to help his team get into the playoffs, and buy into whatever the coach is selling him. It's a risk sure but if it pays off it pays off huge. If it doesn't oh well, his contract is almost up. So what? If anything unless they ask for the farm it's a low risk high reward move.
So a 22 yr old combo who has been productive is good enough for the rockets? Again, aside from the upside do nuts, tyreke has more upside than any rocket. Id take him because I believe good coaching would bring out the best in him. Once again, when did taking 14 shots a game and shooting 45% become a chucker?
Tyreke Evans would have the most talent and the most upside if he were to join this team without a doubt. The only reason he is considered a "chucker" is because he plays for SACRAMENTO. If you have ever seen them play, it is like watching a pick up game at the gym. Does anybody really believe Evans or Cousins would shoot 25+ FGA on the Spurs, Bulls, or any good team? However if they were asking for Lowry, we should be going after their #5 pick instead of Evans.
Tyreke Evans, of course, has plenty of talent. However, lets remember that Sacramento isn't just giving him away for free and they'd probably want something like one of the Rockets 1st round picks in return, too. If so, are the Rockets better off keeping their pick and use it on, say, Austin Rivers, Jeremy Lamb, or Terrence Ross instead of trading that pick for Tyreke Evans?
I feel like it's a 50/50 shot if they did want a 1st round pick. Evans has already gone through 3 years of the nba but still has that all-star potential. The 3 draftees you mentioned also have tremendous upside, however we have seen plenty of pre-drafted players be rated to be the next big thing, and the bust out in less than 3 years. Evans is a solid choice, Drafting a rookie could be a waste of time (not so much on money I suppose). not sure 100% on which choice I would make....
Ugh over Rivers always. That's just my personal opinion though. I think Evans is definitely the more complete player than Rivers ever will be. Over Lamb I'm not entirely sure because I really like Lamb and am hoping the Rockets can get him and I'm just not excited for Ross. But if it is merely just Evans for the 14th pick before the draft. It'd be hard to pull the trigger on that. It wouldn't be so bad though since we'd have a pick later. Hopefully if it came down to it the Rockets would negotiate this trade during the draft and they'd see whose left on the board and see if it was worth it. Evans would be just as much a risk as any other player there (unless someone unlikely drops for whatever reason)
List of Rockets players with higher upside than Evans: Motiejunas, Morris, Lowry, Dragic, and our 14th/16th pick. Reason being, Evans has shown that he can't shoot, can't create for others, and can't help but but watch his team get outscored by ~8pts per game. Also, since when did 45% from a guy that shoots 20% from behind the arc and don't get to the FT line considered good? Evans make Steve Francis look like Steve Nash.
Reke was originally PG for the Kings. When he failed at that position, the Kings tried him at SG (where he doesn't have automatic physical mismatches) and realized he played that position worse. Even on a garbage team, it would be tough for Reke to produce a 20/5 at SG. Even if he does improve this coming contract year, it's Fools Gold. Seen it too many times before. You guys that think he has so much upside need to watch him.
The best part about this is that the same people who would give up first round picks for Evans (a ball hog) complain about giving up nothing for the 09ers- it's the same concept.
A perfect example of Clutchfans <s>stupidity</s>logic. Players that are 21, 22 and 26 (Lowry and Dragic) now have more upside than Evans who is 22. One of the more ridiculous posts I've seen on here.
If a player has real upside, shouldn't he have shown it by improving at least a little bit in 3 seasons?
Tyreke Evans = Rich Man's Terrence Williams. At the end of the day. He's still Terrence Williams. Can't shoot, all he does is drive, dribbles too much, showboats. At least Terrence Williams passed the ball.
