He still has a lot of potential. It's interesting. Has a lot of room to grow in skill. Doesnt have veterans on the team to help him. Kings are very young. We have much more veteran leadership on our team than the kings. It's much better than going for Gasol.
Except that we have Martin and Lee and a draft loaded with SG's (Rivers is actually the 4th highest rated SG). Camby and Dally probably cannot last a season and the big 3 centers in the draft may all be gone by the 14th. But on the other hand Evans may be a good addition. Just because I do not see it doesn't mean that the true BB minds in the FO don't. Being a GM is not easy. Ever.
I feel that alot of you people on Clutchfans just pull up a stat sheets, and just judge a player on that alone without actually watching the games. Reke can be an upgrade at the sg guard postion if he was 100% healthy and paired with the right point guard. Reke is also a solid passer from the sg/sf position.
We don't have much going for us right now so yes, I would take a chance on Tyreke. The kid has potential.
Initial reaction: NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! After giving it a minute: He would be an interesting rehabilitation project, but I'm sure Sacramento would want too much for the risk.
I can't help it. Tyreke is the single most negative contributor to a basketball game that I have seen in ages. Tyreke is light years more impressive on the stat sheet than he is in an actual basketball game. If it is true that you actually watch the games, it is also true that you can not begin to comprehend the nuances of such games. Tyreke is a team killer. Alas, He has a mountain of work in front of him, but I do think he might be able to change, with some heavy lifting from the coaching staff. I'm talking Pop-esque culture change.
It could happen here. I don't think it is a good idea, but I have always viewed Sac-town as where the road to perdition ends up as far as BB player development. But they did succeed with Cousins, gotta hand them that.
If we keep Dragic and trade Lowry or vice versa, I thing Reke would be a good change up. Start him at the 2, then move him to the 1 when Dragic/Lowry hits the bench. You could even run him at the 3 when we need to play small ball. I think the possibilities with this guy are just so vast. Reke is still young enough to develop the parts of his game that are "plaguing" his effectiveness on the court.
How can you watch him play and not see that he is the single most selfish player in the NBA, dribbling for an average of 20 seconds per possession and then launching a fadeaway, contested 18 footer??? How can you watch him and not see how inefficient he is and how he totally tears down any kind of team play offense?
Look at his team. I would be selfish passing the ball too if Thorton and Cousins were the only good players on my team.
The hallmark of a great player is to make those around him better. Not ignore them and try 1-on-5 basketball. Plus, the problem with Evans isn't that he's unwilling to pass, but that he's a crappy passer. If he were unwilling, I'd be willing to take a flyer on him, thinking better coaching may change him. But he just doesn't look like a gifted passer on the court.
The more I think about it, I guess I wouldnt mind getting Evans. Sac doesn't seem to be a great fit for him
Wow! Very blunt, but dead on. I disagree on one thing: I don't think Reke is salvageable. The way his skills have plateaued in his 3 years doesn't speak well for the guy. Pop isn't a miracle worker and I doubt he wants a player like Reke on his team. He's run off several players over the years who didn't conform. I haven't read the entire thread, but those of you who think moving Reke to SG will solve his problems should understand (1) his athleticism/size is nothing special at that position and (2) SGs who can't shoot usually don't help their teams. IMO, his future in the NBA is being a 12-13 point scorer off the bench. Since he is restricted after the coming season, I expect him to improve some but it will be Fool's Gold. I've commented on his manufactured 20/5/5 rookie season many times and won't do it again. Until Reke adds about 30 basketball IQ points (and real IQ points), learns to use his left hand at least 5% of the time and develops a reliable pull-up jumper, he will be what he's always been. roslolian, you said it. Reke doesn't fit on any team that plans on being good.
In the end, I don't think he end up being a superstar or a "great" player. He still has the potential to become a good player though. As far as passing goes, he is good at the drive and dish. He could easily average 2-3 more assists a game if teammates would make shots.
Pretty much exactly how I feel about him. I would take him for a pick and perhaps a non-rotation or expendable player (C-Bud or the like). Any more would be unacceptable. Even then, I would think twice about it. Tyreke is like a poor man's Stevie Francis except he doesn't love Houston and has no history with the city like Stevie.
He can't shoot for poo. I think he would become the scapegoat of our team and give us many, many headaches. I'd pass.
The fact that Sacto wants to shop him should tell you something (I hope). I'd rather have any number of FA SGs than him (hello, Eric Gordon, welcome to the Rockets).
