$8 million is Dragic money. Which would you rather have? I am totally OK with trading for Howard. But only if he signs a contract extension first. You get on that lottery train and it could be a decade before you get off.
Do I need to point out that it has been a long long time since the Rockets have had a losing season? And we did not get the 6th seed last season because of our starting back court went down to injury. Please see the Bulls if you want to know how far down injuries can take a team. Please do not quote your current maxim to me. I view it as pablum and will treat it as such.
To be fair we need the stats on teams who tried to "rebuild while competing" and "trade for a superstar" w/o currently having a single all-star on their roster.
No you don't need to. Yes the Rockets had a winning record....but they were and still are a lottery team. A very good lottery team, but a lottery team all the same. No need to sugar coat it......it is what it is. This is a lottery team/first round snack as currently constructed.
Your comment is totally 100% true. I do not have those stats. I could develop them. Would it be worth the effort?
Maybe the Rockets have those stats.......I hope they do. Because if they don't, this whole "rebuild by trading for a superstar w/o a star" might be worse than losing for 8 seasons.
That's because a lot of teams wanted to lose and wanted to see Rockets win. Not in the playoffs and only getting pick #14 is a lose-lose situation. Also, Rockets are losing money, losing tickets, losing fans and losing TV and media appearances... That's losing season for anybody.
You may be right. But we are so much better off than the Bobcats. And while NO will draft Davis the Rockets will whoop up on them the next couple of seasons.
We were the 6th seed with 6 games to go last season. Then exhaustion at the 1 and 2 brought us down. The Bulls went from the #1 seed to first round fodder because of 2 injuries. Why should we be different?
We have been riding in the caboose of the lottery train for three years. We need to move up to the front three or four cars if not the front of the train.
it might be... would atleast be nice to compare... and see exactly what research and past data suggests...
Moving up that lottery train is incredibly dangerous. We were within knocking distance of a 5th or 6th seed last season, if we had not lost our starting back court. I posted a link just above about how the lottery train can become an 8 year ride to oblivion.
Yes, and frankly I smell a rat. Like Bima said, he's not going to get $4 million per on his next contract. That amounts to playing for free for an entire season if he opts out. I read those articles when they came out. There's no way he opts out unless something crooked is going on, perhaps some Orlando big daddy paying him to leave town. It just makes no sense otherwise.
what if he just wants to abandon ship and try to join a contender? sure, maybe someone is paying him under the table... thats more conspiracy theorist but believable... i believe it could be either or both... but reports are suggesting hes gonna opt out...
