We just returned from Maui and we loved it there. Neat things to do. Why can't we have the same weather here??

We are considering going back to Hawaii but to visit either Kauai or Big Island. I've been to Oahu.

Which island is your favorite?

Kauai is my favorite with Maui second and Oahu third. Can't stand the traffic in Honolulu.

Depends on your budget, how active you are, how adventurous you are, and if you play golf.

In before molokai or something exotic.

I would say that each of the major islands - maui, oahu, kuai, big island all have their charms.

My wife really loved kuai or however you spell it. I wasn't as impressed with kuai as I was with maui.

Did you drive around the north side of maui? That is truly a nice trip.

the big island is neat too. Swimming near kona I saw huge turtles. I mean huge. all sorts of colored fish. Very pretty. That who volcano scene and everything about it is cool. You can get pretty close. just a good fun place I recommend.

As for oahu I mean it's the hub of the area. Waikiki is awesome area and with dukes , outrigger and royal hawaiian you can't go wrong. I have been on some romantic booze cruises is out of waikiki and seeing the surfers and diamond head is a sight for someone from texas. The north island is cool seeing the dole plantations and the waves. Surfers paradise I guess. It seemed sleepy to me but did see the nice waves. its hawaii so you have to check it.

verdict: all islands are the t***.

kauai is much more laid back and off the beaten path, at least as much as it can be. I loved it there, especially staying on the northeast side of the island.

    Don't hate, DD.

IBTL, yeah, we did the Road to Hana. I was freaking scared out of my mind on the way back. We left Hana like at 6:30pm and it got dark fast. Keep in mind, it has 600 curves. Hubby's friend was driving like 35mph (speed limit) and it still felt really fast. I am not scared of heights but on this drive, I was freaked out. I was sitting on the right side facing the ocean. Beautiful drive, regardless.

I was also scared on the drive up/down to Haleakala crater's summit. We got the chance to view the Venus when it passed between the sun and Earth.

The waves were insane. I nearly got pulled away in a rip current.

We went snorkeling at Moloniki crater. Pretty cool. The trip got cut short due to rough waves though. :(

Maui is really a gem. barely encountered any traffic. I loved Lahiana. If you ever want to go to Maui, I can recommend the condo where we stayed. Reasonable price. Hotels are sooo expensive in Hawaii.

I was shocked at how expensive the grocery bill was when we shopped for groceries. How can people live in Hawaii if everything is expensive?? Besides being rich...

I was in Kauai in October and was told an interesting fact. Kauai and Oahu are roughly about the same size. Oahu has a population of about 1 million, Kauai's population is only 60,000. I've been to both and Kauai's vibe is much more laid back and relaxing.

Maui. We've been to all the islands and are now at the point when we go to just go to Maui and hang out there. We have rented a house for a week in July and are taking the kids and grandkids.

Stayed in Oahu for nearly a year. I was 19 and immature with no money and whatever money i had was spent on beer. I also didn't enjoy it much b/c there happened to be a girl back on the mainland i had fallen for and wished to go back to.

Over time, i had dreams of returning and how peaceful it really was and how i took it all for granted. Now, i'd rather go somewhere like down under and actually live there.

    That's interesting!

I looked up to see the population for Maui and was surprised to see that it's only 150k.

    Which area? Kiehi?

Oahu was great as a kid living on Sunset Beach. Greatest memory: recess on the beach

Maui was great as an adult on vacation. Greatest memory: riding down the summit on a bicycle

I'm not talking about the road to hana I am talking about going north from lahaina and going along coast north side all the way around. there is a blowhole that is really cool:

to me that drive was the best of them all. I had to work in honolulu and had the chance to really scope the places out. maui was the nicest in the end and wins but big island, kaui and oahu all have their things that maui doesn't.

but yeah maui probably the tops.

    for me it's:
    1)maui
    2)big island
    3)oahu
    4)kuai (cant spell it)
