Heard rumors they might try a Drummond-Cousins duo if possible, the potential and versatility is unlimited.
Exactly. I feel the same way about Drummond. The main reason for the comparison is the size. But outside of that each is raw at this point. So whoever gets Drummond will have to be patient and develop him. As we saw with Bynum it took 2 years and by year 3 he was starting to come into his own. Now hopefully Drummond doesn't have the same injury problems Bynum has had but there's no way to forcast something like that.
Neither one of those guys can guard a quick 4-man. Besides those two guys are very immature, I dunno about pairing those two.
That's the thing with this draft though. It's deep, like about 20-25 legit 1st rounders deep. Now it is lacking the definate star power like 84 and 03 had, but that doesn't mean that we won't see stars come from all parts of the 1st round because of the depth. This is more to then just guessing or wishing for stars. There is so much talent in this draft that I predict we will see the next wave of superstars emerge from this draft. I can see up to 5 legit star players come from this draft. Now Davis is the can't miss guy which leaves 4 others who I would suspect will become star players. So with no concensus on who these other guys could be, I can see star players emerging anywhere within the top 25 or so picks. It's going to come down to which teams scouts do the best job or the higher picking team scouts messing up dropping those star players to lower picks.
That would be a mistake and would hinder each players progression. While Cousins can play outsie the paint, that should not be his game. Drummond will not play outside the paint. Thus both guys should play with a 4 who can stetch the court and play facing the basket and have the ability to drain the 14-18 foot jumper like a Brandon Bass type.
Sacramento would do well to add Lowry to the mix. And PPat, who would fit in nicely next to his bud Cousins. But there problem is what to do with Evans. He becomes duplicative at that point. Moreover, I think the whole world knows by now he doesn't play a winning style... at least not currently. Trading Evans for Lowry would make Cousins, Fredette, Thorton... everybody on that team better, imo. Of course, the Rockets don't want Evans. They want the #5. I'm sure the Kings would love to trade Evans for a #5 - #10 pick. And they could then trade on of those picks in a package to Houston for Lowry. But who wants Evans? I can't see any team in the lottery willing to take him on... maybe Charlotte, but I don't think they're that dumb, to trade a #2 for Evans. I just can't foresee acquiring the Kings pick at this point. Lowry, Scola, #16 for Evans, Garcia, Hayes, #5 The players the Rockets acquire in that trade are all crap. So you're effectively trading Lowry, Scola and the #16 for the #5. Seems like a lot. Again, I know Evans can put up some stats, but he isn't conducive to winning.
I agree that the draft is deep, but I think the difference makers reside in the top 6 which is what we need. I think it will be like the great 08 draft where a lot of guys turned into great role players outside of the top 5.
Good luck with that one....I don't see any strong 5s. For the Kings in all honesty, they would need a player, like Parsons (or Igoudala) more so than Lowry or Scola. They certainly wouldn't need Scola, if they plan on moving Cousins to PF permanently. His game is more suited for power forward. Drummond has a whole bunch of questions, but that might make an intriguing duo. I could see them going for someone, like Roy Hibbert, Brook Lopez, or Andrew Bogut (if he were available).
Agreed. I think top 5 or 6 will be very good players (maybe not stars) for good teams. After that, I think it's a toss up. Maybe 1 or 2 will turn out to be as good as the top 5 drafted, a few others will be good role players, and the rest will be trade pieces for their careers.
I hate to ask the question but where in the lineup do you slot Jones? The 3? He will never be the defender that Parsons is. The 4? Does he have the potential of D-Mo? No.
he has more potential than D-Mo. Without a question. D-Mo is probably more polished though, which is why Jones is considered a flyer, high reward high bust.
Though, I hate saying this, because some Houston fans love their players. At this point in PPat's career, he's a marginal starter, while Cousins is a not a good defender against bigs. Patterson isn't a great defender, either against big men. Sacramento even by the rumor or news said that they specifically need a "5". If you watched even a few of their games, they really need a solid center more than anything (who could come with veteran leadership).
So how many of D-Mos games have you watched? There is not 1 player in the NBA who can match up 1v1 with D-Mo.
A winner and mature... who fits that description on our team at a position that they really need. Still, I'm saying what is their biggest need, right now based on position?
Sac-town is not gonna draft Drummund. He's the opposite of what they need. They are a young, talented team that is not that far away from being competitive, but they need some vet. leadership; not a developmental prospect with questionable motivation. If Sac keeps the pick, it won't be used on Drummund. And as far as Houston aquiring #5, it would likely have to be a 3-way trade. I can't see Sac-town wanting #14 , they have plenty of young assets so it's hard to see players like Marcus Morris or Parsons appealing to them. If Lowry played a different position, he'd be the ideal trade chip, but Sac is really pleased with their young PG so i doubt Lowry is what they are looking for. They might have interest in Scola, but he's on a bad contract, so he's not gonna be a lot of help in netting us the #5 pick. It's just not a good fit trade-wise. We don't have the kind of assets they need. It would have to be a 3-way deal, and speculating about 3-way deals is pointless since there are too many possibilities.
