Is no one else shocked that bigtexxx is in favor of ending the Bush tax cuts?

You give them far too much credit.

They are trolls in the most conventional sense, posting solely to piss off the other side.

It amuses me to see people continue to fall for it, until I realize this is what passes for political debate these days, then it saddens me. We cant fix whats wrong with the country as long as the people continue to fall for this crap. You cant debate real issues when both sides choose to twist the facts to alienate their political opponents.

Well said. The sad part is that some of these characters, basso and ?texxx come to mind, post good stuff in other forums here. They obviously see D&D as their own personal playground, Troll Central, if you will, and you're right. People fall for it time and time again. I have basso on ignore, and usually don't bother with ?texxx, but I read both of them in other forums. It would be nice if one could place a member on ignore in a particular forum, and not in the others. Perhaps we'll see that feature someday.

I think we'll more than likely see D&D go than have a feature like that.

They know their arguments are poorly framed and inconsistent, full of holes, and simply not true at times. That's not the point. It's to get people worked up.

Why do it? Some of it is revenge from the Bush years when liberals here bashed Bush so hard to an extreme that got hurtful to them. They were mocked for supporting Bush. And so now the tables are turned a bit they can do the same.

And partly everyone glosses over the flaws of the players they love. Houston has a much favorable opinion of say Vernon Maxwell than say anyone else does.

    nice analysis, Freud.

The real answer is that Obama has been an atrocious president who has led America to mediocrity. He has certainly not delivered "hope and change". He's failed and we need to replace him.

Do you ever think to yourself what the purpose of your post have? Because when you say Obama and his goons, or put up all the ridiculous attacks you do, with the poisonous language, all persuasiveness is lost. No one takes you seriously. The people who respond do so because you anger them, you're actually doing the opposite of persuading them, you are making them dig in deeper to their positions.

So any good point you make, something worth criticizing your favorite target on, is lost as just being made-up bias as it's lost in a sea of junk. So saying that some of the benefits of the HCR bill could have been put into another bill - a potentially valid point, is lost with all the other stuff you spew out.

If you don't realize that, then maybe you should reconsider what you write and your style of writing. If you do realize that, and you don't care about persuading anyone of anything, then you are basically admitting to being a troll.

I tried this line of reasoning with basso more than once. It was a waste of my time. Having him on ignore, and not responding to his threads, has made life in D&D much easier for me.

People do need to stop feeding him and have to take some of the responsibility of encouraging them. Once someone is a troll, stop arguing with them. And if it takes putting them on ignore like you do that's great. But people got to stop taking the bait.

Really, who's worse, the troll or the person who knows it and still walks right into the trap?

Once people stop taking the bait, if it is possible, we will find that guys like Bigtexx and Basso will either disappear, or start finding another way to get a response...eventually posting more credible stuff.

But i also wonder if you need to have these polarizing types in forums to keep the conversation volume up. I don't know, but I do think I have grown pretty tired of it nonetheless.

Self-righteous indignation is sweet; like peanut butter and chocolate for the ego

    It's self-affirming and self-absolving.

Well basso is paid to post on this site. He needs more replies for his threads, so he trolls, and does things to ensure he he gets replies. It's just too bad that people feed into that.

    Don't you understand?
What hurts them the most is when they come to realize that what they are doing helps the Democrat's cause. I sure do hope there are more basso and bigtexx around the country. We can't lose against that stupidity. :)

If there are no basso or bigtexxie inanities to slay, the D&D is one sad and boring place reserved for real discussion. :(

At the end of the day, I wouldn't take any of this crap personally. We're all just electrons pissing in the wind. The real difference is outside the door.

Bit of a disconnect there. You're one of the first responders to take the bait.

I don't know how you can tell yourself you don't feed them short of ignoring them.

My guess is yes. I don't know for sure. But basso the opera singer has been going to technology conferences and things like that recently.

That started happening after his dive off the deep end with posting style. He used to be different in the way he posted. He'd come close to actually discussing or debating (not quite, but close) but it changed at one point.

After that he starts posting about different technology conferences. His style is pure troll.

His content comes from GOP and conservative talking points. The sources are trashy conservative blogs, and disreputable unreliable conservative "news" sites.

He starts an inordinate amount of threads. Early on he'll post in them quite frequently... possibly to make sure they stay on the front page near the top, and to troll people and get the replies going because he has to get replies per his agreement with who's paying him.

It's not really important if he's actually paid or not, though I believe he is.

    Got it!

So the best thing to do is just ignore the monkey.
