But his point is correct though. My phone (Droid Inc) is 2 yrs old and won't get ICS. It's basically abandoned now, except for someone in the Android community who independently works on an ICS ROM for it. There is a version out there but it's barely usable. I'm not complaining, but Apple is actually better at supporting older models. I will be forced to buy a new phone to get the new version of the OS. That said, I'm still not switching to an iPhone. I want my next phone to have a 4.7" screen at minimum.
how many iphones came out in the last 5 years? FIVE. that's it. don't u think it's manageable for a company as big as apple to make sure their operating systems work for those five devices? how many android phones came out? 1,493,927,373? it's not possible for google to force all these hardware manufactures to support 3 year old phones. they are not making enough money that way. the money is in putting out new samsung galaxies every 2 weeks. the number of users wit those old phones who are waiting for an update x cost of software development = not worth it. most people who got those early droids are probably switching to either an iphone or a newer android anyway. as long as one company makes software..and another few makes the hardware..we will have the same problem. it's already happening now with microsoft/samsung/nokia/att.
I don't think anyone expects them to support every device, but at the very least, your flagship devices for specific carriers should be supported for longer than they are currently. The Droid Incredible was HTC's flagship device on Verizon when it launched. The original Galaxy S (Captivate, Vibrant, Fascinate) were flagship devices, and they're not slated to get ICS according to Samsung's website.
Yeah I get it, I'm the last person you need to explain it to. It's the classic conflict of fragmentation vs a closed ecosystem. And while many may hate aspects of closed ecosystem, one benefit is easier support. I'm not sure what your point is otherwise. Yeah, it's harder for Android, so what? Am I not supposed to point out that shortcoming? As I said I'm not even complaining about it, just stating the facts to follow up that wakkomen is not spouting some fanboyism. I definitely prefer Android at this point as I've mentioned in the cell phone thread.
I actually had the same thought. I thought the first major legit Android phone on Verizon would get more support as we were basically early adopters. But I guess not. So goes the nature of the beast.
Good to see Apple finally move to their own Maps application. Google was holding them back from actually using Turn by Turn, so now that they are 'free' we may see more progress in that area from Apple. That was always a major advantage for Google. Hopefully with TomTom data under the hood and the new 3D mapping tech they bought, the application still works well. Spoiler Spoiler Passbook is cool, I hope that points to NFC coming with the next iPhone. Spoiler
So what? It still does everything it did when you bought it. I fail to understand why people are enamored with upgrading the OS of outmoded hardware. It will be filled with compromise that might likely make for a worse finished product.
OMG is anyone reading my posts? I'm NOT complaining. I GET IT. This is the 3rd time stating it. Again I'm NOT COMPLAINING. Just supporting the simple fact that iOS devices are likely to get longer upgrades. Just stating the simple fact of the matter. I was just following up wakkomen's same assertion of which DarkHorse seemed to fine hyperbole or whatever. Are we rooting for sports teams here or something? Did I miss the memo? Or is everyone just going full r****d when we talk Apple/Android. Can I not point out a shortcoming? FFS bunch of idiots. <--- Now that's a complaint.
What exactly was your point in your first reply to me? Because now it really doesn't make sense. Did you mean to reply to someone else? Or to some imaginary debate that didn't exist? Evidently my attention getting response worked, since no one bothered to actually comprehend my other posts. Turning the focus on me 'freaking out' (ie typing a few sentences on a message board to get people to actually read) is a typical internet discussion attempt to backtrack and change the topic.
Updates are a shortcoming for some people. The fact that carriers have most of the control over most handsets is the number one reason I am less compelled to get an Android phone. you can go alert or notification. I care more about what it does than the look of a bubble.
It was my input in a discussion, however imaginary you wish to portray it, on updates of the the two OS. I agree for a phone like the Droid Razr Maxx (currently outselling the iPhone at Verizon) because many people might be buying it counting on the ability to run ICS later. But for a 2-3 year old phone, disappointment of not being able to run the latest OS doesn't make much sense to me.
IMO Apple products are easier on the eye and a lot simpler to use. I do not care to customize my phone with pretty colors and fonts. To me, Apple has succeeded purely because of its sleek design and easy to use interface.
And? You still haven't explained the relevance in replying to me in either post. But at this point you obviously don't want to admit your mistake and keep avoiding it. But that's how most internet discussions go so I get it.
