What's the more honorable way to acquire stars?

  1. Recruit them through free agency, form super team

People think there is something underhanded about the way Miami recruited their stars in free agency (though it's basically what a bunch of teams tried to do in 2010, teams like NY, CHI, CLE, and NJ just failed). They seem to think that OKC's construction of their "home grown" team is more honorable. But if you think about it, they basically tanked for their 3 best players. I'll give them points for good drafting acumen (and luck) and shrewd moves that landed them the likes of Ibaka, Maynor, Perkins, etc.

So, do you think recruiting your stars is less honorable than tanking for them?

Who cares if its honorable or not? If it wins you the Championship, honor don't even matter...

If it's your team, it's honorable. If it's a villain team then it's awful and disgusting. I think what the Miami guys did was pretty cool mainly because they all took less money to do it. In today's pro sports where it seems like all anybody cares about it money, to me, it was refreshing for bosh, james, wade to take much less money than they could have gotten elsewhere to play together and have fun playing together in an awesome city.

I miss the 90s basketball. It was never about joining your rivals. It was always about doing everything you can on the court to beat them. Nowadays it's go super team or go irrelevant. Anyway, te NBA doesn't care about that. They mainly care about $$$ So we need a superstar to take us even if we rent them for a year.

    Oh my god.
If I had a nickel for every time I heard "well back in the day... the NBA was like this."

Buying Championships . .. or even through collusions is just dishonorable
Honestly . . . it diminishes the game

Remember when Karla Malone went to the lakers to get a championship
that is how the Miami team feels now . . .
KArla took less to go there for a ring . . .
IT was unfair to other teams . . . .that could have used his talents
    sure it was his right
    sure it was 'legal'
    but
    it felt slimey

I respect teams more for building through the draft and trades as opposed to free agency, but it doesn't matter. Championships are championships.

You mean getting some lucky ping pong balls or tanking? Seattle was real smart about picking Durant? or Chicago was smart in picking up Drose, or Orlando with Dhoward or Cleveland with Lebron?

There is absolutely no honor in a rigged league like the NBA. There is so much money circulating in the system that honor is a great inconvenience for everyone involved. This league is purely an entertainment business and everything else is secondary, including the fans. That is why it is ridiculous when one sees posts questioning some folks about the kind of fans that they are. Whether we like it or not the NBA is strictly a business that is why the owners don't give a rats ass about moving their team from one city to another if their business is not making money. That is just the way professional sports goes, no money, no honey, nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah, good point. How about when San Antonio tanked to get Duncan?

I agree with this but in this corrupt league where money rules all it was really refreshing to see bosh/wade/james all take less money to play together. You guys won't see it most likely because you hate them so much you can't see the beauty behind what they did.

I don't personally subscribe to ManViews so it might be hard for me to see the beauty behind what they're doing.

Huh? You don't think it's cool for guys to take less money to play/win together in a fun city? When kids play together on the playground they always want to be on the same team as their buddies. I see nothing wrong with it at all whatsoever. I have no idea what ManViews is by the way.

These guys are living the life and having fun in an awesome city. Would you rather be there and winning or in ****hole Cleveland and losing. Miami Heat team dancing after game 7: looks like fun to me!
