According to Alex Kennedy so take it FWIW. He said numerous people at the draft combine were saying it.

Isn't his contract expiring next year? What would be the purpose of doing this now? Perhaps they are after Howard/Dwill? To be frank, I would think they have more assets than we do at the moment.

There is probably a more logical explanation I'm not considering...

Brand is still a very good player. If he were amnestied, I wonder where he would end up? Sigh.... probably to help a contender.....

Sixers are one of those teams hemorrhaging money. If they amnesty Brand, it's likely to go young, ie they're dumping Iggy.

The only reason to amnesty anyone is because of either the luxury tax, or because they need cap space to sign someone else.

What? Amnestying a player when you're nowhere near the luxury tax doesn't save you a dime.

Doesn't really make sense to me; they could get down to $33M or so if they renounce Lou Williams, but I'd assume a decent chunk of their $18M would go to signing Hawes...

Wouldn't this take them way under the cap and allow them to make a max offer to Deron Williams straight up or Dwight Howard after a trade? Sounds interesting.

They can do these things or just use the flexibility to their advantage in other ways (eating salary for picks, etc).

One move of many. Future looking in terms of money as much as developing players too.

OK I am confused. Why would a team amnesty an expiring contract? Or even talk about it. If you needed the cap all of a sudden you could do it right at the trade. And they have $10 million in cap. That is a lot of salary they can eat. And Hawes should come in at under $10 million, except that he is a center so it could be $45 million.

Just another stupid rumor. They are getting thicker than flies.

Expiring contracts used to be valuable, now, not so much, Cap flexibility is better.
