I dont follow horse racing, so i'm wondering how much of this has to do with rules protecting the horses or if it's just common for the owners to look out for the horses carefully. Obviously it's different than in human sports, but given the money involved, i would have though the horses were pushed harder. Would the horse simply not want to physically push himself during the race?

Who's career could've been greater, Greg Oden's, T-Mac's or I'll Have Another's? Shame how injuries keep world class players or horses down.

ps How does IHA workout in the off-season? I just don't see the determination to be the best and keep his body fit in IHA's eyes and interviews. This horse could've been a top 5 horse off all-time but didn't try hard enough. Next season we'll see IHA having a nother surgery and then demanding a trade or wanting another coach. F this horse.

Horse racing is so irrelevant now that this news isn't a big deal

I always wondered why there has never been a horse as fast as secretariat. People are always running faster why not horses?

There's a big event planned at the Vancouver racetrack where the jockey used to race. A large screen to show the race live plus give-aways and other hoopla to celebrate the race.

It's going to be kind of a dud now.

Welp, there goes the TV ratings for the Belmont. Even though I'm the furthest thing from a fan of horse racing, I think it would be really cool to see a Triple Crown winner.

That's actually a really interesting question. I had never thought about that. You would think that with all the improvements made in training human athletes there would be similar improvements made in training horses for competition and records would be getting broken almost annually like we see in track and field.

Sounds like an interesting question, but human training and horse training just isnt comparable. Runners are getting stronger and faster because of a wide range of reasons. Training, apparel, technique or even psychological approach. The only thing you can really do with a horse is improve nutrition, manipulate their rest, and change some minor areas of training. Everything else requires communication and experimental equipment for the horse to make sense of it. It would be too difficult, time consuming, and expensive to even attempt it, and even then, the results would probably be poor.
