I guess you guys never heard of Kevin Love? Perfect is a little far. Perfect to me means Olajuwon or Kareem Abdul Jabbar level great. By the posters definition it seems to mean adeqaute or better than average.
The only situation in which Kevin Love can be considered a perfect center is if your PF is a prime Tim Duncan or KG. Pretty good PF though.
Meyers will no doubt be a bust. I am a HUGE fighting Illini fan and there was nothing special about his game. He was good against teams with weak big men......completely disappeared against solid to great comp. Might be athletic and everything......but needs to learn how to play basketball, needs to gain 25 to 30 pounds of muscle, and most of all.....needs to overcome being a total mental midget. He soaked up more towels with tears than sweat this past season. Brian Cook was 10x the player at Illinois than Meyers Leonard was.......how well did Brian do in the NBA?
Zeller, then if we can buy a second round pick grab Melo. Nice safe pick then a shoot for the moon pick. Someone who can contribute next year and someone who could be a rising star in 4. And Melo could be D-Leagued for the whole year.
If its a choice between Zeller and Leonard there is no question who my pick goes to. Zeller is NBA ready, and can fit right in on offense. On defense I think he's going to be a little weak, but he's got enough experience in a good system for 4 years to be a little ahead of the game as far as learning defensive sets, & rotations. Leonard is a much less proven, & experienced version of the same player IMO.
Living where I do I get to attend a number of Syracuse games every year. Syracuse plays that Boeheim zone which makes their players very difficult to project players into the NBA. Looking back on all of those first round picks that came off of those Syracuse squads, the last one that panned out was Carmelo. And he most of the time was a disaster on the defensive side. The NBA FO's understand this and it makes Melo's draft spot difficult to forecast. It is going to depend heavily on his individual work outs. And his attitude, which he does have plenty of.
All I'm sayin is I dunno... https://twitter.com/chadfordinsider/status/211164037180960768 [can't embed his tweet] Chad Ford @chadfordinsider Meyers Leonard the other big riser here. Think his range is closer to 9-14 now. #NBACombine
I remember just a couple of weeks ago everyone said leonord had high bust potential. you draft "experts" don't know jack **** about jack ****.
I don't think he will be able to put it together myself. However, 7'1 centers with fluid mobility and good hands are about as rare as it gets. If Zeller is gone take him. As long as we get Zeller or Leonard we need young size.
This is my view as well, though I'm not a huge Illini fan. But I did watch some games. Nothing about him stands out at all. Now, it seems as if he did add muscle, and is showing more athleticism... BUT, its his in-game athleticism that counts, which seemed lacking to me. These are the type of draft risers that are great for our #14 pick, and allows Morey to get at #14 the guy he really had at #6 I like the Joel Pryzbilla comparison.
