OK, this thread might be a bit premature but I wanted to plant the seed. With the recent success of Avengers, it's not surprising to see a new Justice League film in the works. Warner Brothers, a parent of DC Comics, is trying to make that happen. Word coming out is that a new cast shall be introduced. What are your thoughts whether this film can be successful? If this gets released down the road, is it awesome? http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie...-finally-bring-batman-superman-203740882.html
They need to let Bruce Timm and the rest of their cartoon producers take care of this if they want it to be good.
QFT If anyone could pull it off it'd be Timm, he's DC's best shot at accomplishing something close to what Whedon did with Marvel.
Nah, Christian Bale is[/b] Batman now. The Avengers would not have been nearly as enjoyable without the continuity of the cast (Ruffalo excepting, obviously, but we only care about him when he's green), particularly RJD.
This movie is going to suck, lol. I can't wait for them to have 3 different actors playing Batman in 1 year.
Very smart of them to not try to follow Marvel and base the Justice League off of the current continuity. Christian Bale's Batman is so grounded in Nolan's Gotham that it would be very hard to put him into a more fantastical world with Green Lantern and Superman.
WB has shown that they're hopelessly without vision or direction in this. The only good thing they've done is get out of Nolan's way and not meddle like they did with all the other franchises. And I wouldn't be too concerned about Bale as Batman - every indication is that post-TDKR, you would HAVE to reboot things. If I were Warner, I'd go anti-Marvel: JL film followed afterwards by spinoffs. It's not exactly as if you have to introduce the public to the characters.
If they're smart they cast it with all young, super talented actors that they can lock in to multiple pic contracts. Then they spin off the characters and actors into their own titles after the movie is a smash. Batman, Superman, WW, Green Lantern.
If I were DC here's how I'd do this. I go totally against comics and do fresh stories. Next Superman movie that comes out should end with the "death" of Superman. Throughout that movie have Star Labs appear and be working on something "big" that will need Superman. In the post credits you do a scene where at the grave site you have Bruce Wayne standing over the grave of Superman holding a file from Star Labs. He says something like "Just when it looks like we need a man like you..." Then you do Justice League without Superman! Martian invasion film, but more subtle than the one that just happened in Avengers. Without Superman the Martians come and look like us trying to peacefully occupy Earth. Manhunter brings together the JLA to foil the plot. This would give you the ability to do some detective scenes with Batman and play on his paranoia as he doesn't trust the Martians plus you'd get some big battles that let Wonder Woman, Lantern, Manhunter show off their power. You incorporate some of the JLA comics that touched on the Martian invasion, primarily the scene where Batman saves the JLA from the Martians and gets called the most dangerous man on Earth. You do a post credit at the end of the film that teases Superman coming back to life.
I think that continuity will be important, though with Batman, how much Bruce Wayne did we ever see in anything "justice league" related? I don't think it will matter if Batman is played by Bale as much as it seems like it would from the success of his performances. (caveat, I don't know, never was a DC guy really). That sounds like it would suck. Sorry. I have a tough time accepting "Martian Manhunter" as a major part of anything. I do think they could make it work and do it well, but that ain't it, imo, and I have concerns they will do a bad job of this. Shame, because it COULD be very good.
I have, but as I said, I wasn't really a DC guy. I'm aware he's a big character, but I don't care for it. I suspect a story like that won't go over as well as something like Avengers. And besides... Spoiler
Well I doubt JLA is going to be as successful as the Avengers anyway. You have to do a huge enemy kind of story or the JLA characters are too overpowered for the screen. Martian Manhunter is incredibly powerful, more powerful than Superman.
I don't want a character more powerful than Superman. Best part of killing off Superman to me would be the characters being closer to equals.
Except Manhunter can be done without doing his full power. He's come to Earth so he's weak, he doesn't want to use his power against his people, whatever. But yes, your point is exactly why I want Superman killed off lol.
In that case you better also kill off Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter. That leaves the original league with Batman and Aquaman (who is about 1000 times more powerful than Batman, but at least he is limited to telepathy, breathing underwater, talking to sea creatures, the speed to run about Mach 1, and the strength to hold up a city block, (unless you use the version with the water hand, who has a few more powers). You also can't round out the league with any heavy hitters, so you would have to go with various members of the Bat-family (Robin, Batgirl, etc.), Wildcat, Hawkman, Green Arrow, Question, Manhunter, Arsenal, etc. It is doable, but you are throwing out most of DCs big names just so you can have a league in which Batman is significant.
They should do a Batman betrayal movie. Like Tower of Babel. The lone human taking out all the super heroes.
While every super hero is more powerful than Batman, Jonn and Superman are on a level beyond ridiculous. At least Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern aren't bullet proof.
