surprised that Da Marco is as low as it is -- that place is exceptional Tony's has long been a favorite of mine -- I'll get in there at least once, sometimes more each year I haven't tried Oxheart yet, but need to Kata Robata is great, but I'm surprised they're as high as they are. I might move Indika up the list, too. I like that place, although it's definitely fusion cuisine Poscol is a neat place -- like that one
Tasted some food from Indika at the farmers market here and it is great. I really want to go to the restaurant itself.
I've heard good things about Oxheart...must try it. Went to Indika a couple weeks ago...I'm def in the minority, as I didn't think it was good for Indian, but then again, it's a fusion restaurant. Everyone i was with definitely enjoyed it though. As texxx said, Da Marco should be higher...top 10 for sure, if not top 5. Mark's should be top 20 but isn't even on the list.
It's a top 100 list..........people are going to disagree. The good thing is that it gets people talking about Houston restaurants. I've had decent meals at Vieng Thai, but I personally think Kanomwan and Thai Gourmet blow it out of the water. As for Pappasitos, I just don't think a chain restaurant will ever make this type of list, and let's face it, chain restaurants are like Microsoft in the 90's or Apple today.........or almost all of pop music.......chain restaurants are way too easy to hate on. That being said, some of the Pappas restaurants are utterly amazing at just how long they've been on their game. There's a good reason they still pack 'em in every night.
Oxheart is the single best restaurant I have eaten at in Houston. The Owner, Justin Yu is a young ass chef with a mind much bigger than Houston. If anything, we dont deserve him in this city. Dude studied all over the world learning from the best chefs and cut his gib at Napa Valley. Everyone needs to eat there, and stop insulting fine food...just makes you look IGNORANT and SIMPLE.
I want to think that major factors like: food, service, location, cost, etc., were all taken into consideration to decide this... that's why you don't see expensive places like Fogo, etc. I think. I think this is the first time I will ever say this, but... YOU SOUND MAD, BRO. You should have told them they had the pests you saw, then asked for your money back without throwing a fit a'la adeelsiddiqui at an airport.
out of my mind I guess. I don't know the roach taco was okay I guess. The termite soup was a little spicy and the chimichangas with spider sauce was lacking.
Da Marco being at 20 is an absolute joke, no doubt its top 5. Need to try Oxheart apparently more based on what some people here have said...
Beaver's is pretty kick-ass, though a little expensive. And Crawfish and Noddles...the best crawfish I've ever tasted. The spicy crawfish that is.
I must be the only one who loathes this place. Tiny portions, hate all of the "pretty stuff" and it's basically just a place for all socialites to be seen and fake their friendships. Absolutely hate this place. I'd rather eat Popeyes. Also, whoever said Max's Wine Dive for brunch, no lie. It's fantastic as is BRC Gastropub.
I never eaten there so I can't speak on that. But to be fair to her, she did say it dropped because of a recent experience where 5 out of 6 dishes were very subpar.
I've been to probably 10 to 15 of these places. One I wanted to call attention to is Villa Arcos, number 66. If you have the opportunity, be sure to go there for breakfast tacos. Far and away the best in the city. When we lived on that side of town my wife and I went there almost every weekend.
I haven't noticed the tiny portions. If all you want is large portions, I can point you to the nearest Golden Corral or Hartz chicken buffet. Have you tried their fish -- where they bring the whole fish (including head) to the table? The truffled mac and cheese? Their souffle? I think their food is awesome. Fantastic wine list, as well, and very professional service. I've never not been happy with my meals there.
