My guess would be a team with a lot of picks like the cardinals. I hope it's us and we are signing Vitrant, but I doubt we would ever reach an agreement with him until we reach agreements with the first 11 picks
And finally, in the 40th Round, with the 1209th pick in the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, the Houston Astros select Joseph Shaw, a RHP from Ennis HS, in Ennis. He is committed to Dallas Baptist.

One other off-shoot of new rules. He's dead set on TCU.

In this class, there are: 17 juniors (hoping for at least 12-14) 4 JUCO players (no idea, hope we get at least Joyce) 8 seniors (unless they have better things to do with their lives than baseball, they'll sign) 11 HS players (the Day 3 HSers will definitely be off to school, early signs on McCullers look promising, Phillips on board early is definitely encouraging, and Correa possibly signing for a discount absolutely blew me away) So, 27-30 players sign? Would be a nice haul. Update:

Astros owner Crane said Astros have a verbal agreement with Carlos Correa.
— Zachary Levine (@zacharylevine) June 6, 2012
Traver is dead set on TCU. I think the Day 3 high schoolers are off to school.

Oh my god, the Astros might now have the smartest front office in Houston, and that's really saying something given Morey and Smithiak...
Jeff Luhnow is a beast, he's like the Astros version of Morey, huge difference being this method works in Baseball. A good GM, can almost singlehandedly restore faith in an entire franchise. And we've had a couple of big duds recently.
The Astros aren't doing anything that other teams haven't already thought of before. Adding a business side to the front office is more advanced in baseball than other sports. It really speaks more to our backward ass front office under Wade and Pupurra more than it speaks of our current regime. I'm loving what the Astros are doing. Their approach is excellent and they are clearly well-run. And resembles a modern front office rather than a backward one. But in the end, we're still not certain of the quality of their scouting department. You can be cute with signing bonuses all you want. But if Buxton becomes a superstar while Correa flounders in the minors, then this would be a failure of a draft regardless of how we freed up some money for other prospects.
Somebody fill me in on this...Im very naive when it comes to the MLB draft. Why exactly would a team draft a high schooler when you know they are going to go to college? I dont understand the point of drafting them in the first place.
