correa is definitely 17.. he was just blessed with a pro-ball players build at age 17.. cant wait till he bulks up..
Am I the only one in love with the new front office? Luhnow has done absolutely nothing but great things since he came in...same goes to Crane
Such an amazing change from the cheap Mclane. It's a great thing the Astros added all the statistical people over the summer since they can help find ways to make everything work. Future is bright, the future is bright
the man is turning the franchise around in rapid fashion. an absolute breath of fresh air from the dog and pony show that morey has going with the rockets.
Morey needs to either try harder to get a superstar or deal with losing and tank and draft one themselves. I'm not saying we should tank...just that I don't like mediocrity loo
Last time I checked the Astros weren't close to being a winning team and still aren't projected to be in 2 years. Hold your horses, the picks haven't even signed and you won't know if they'll be stars for another 3 years.
So cheap he had a payroll $40M higher than Crane. FWIW, McLane didn't operate under these new rules, and never had the 1st pick. We do know in the last few years he was more willing to go over slot for players. I think Luhnow will be the best GM the team has ever had. We needed the breath of fresh air.
I'm not sold we can't win next year. Yeah, this draft will take a while, but the trades and drafts of the past 3 years should start paying dividends.
Slow your roll.. We got a number of guys the media had highly rated, but we will not know for 3-5 years whether we had a good draft. If Correa doesn't develop everyone will rip the pick. We took some very young players with serious question marks. I love the effort and am really encouraged, but let's not get carried away. Concerning Morey.. Different sport, different owner. Give Morey the #1 pick and let's see what happens. Anyway.. Happy to see for the first time in 20 years the Astros are making minor league development a #1 priority.
will need a pitcher or 2. But I agree--at least in the mix. Which is why I'm very strongly against those who are suggesting we may trade Lowrie. I say no way you even consider it given his arb status, etc.
McLane was cheap when it came to the draft. For years he would not go over slot for players and under paid his scouts and under funded his academies. It got so bad that the best GM in team history moved on.. and it only got worse.
Crane is set on rebuilding, of course his payroll is low. Not to mention the majority of the money was 20 mil on carlos lee, 7 mil on oswalt for playing for someone else, and after paying the Yankees, the YANKEES, for the services of Berkman. We are currently doing a lot better with about half the salary... Stick with basketball
Yeah I agree, I believe he set like a 5 million budget a few years ago, that won't help you sign any overslot players later in the draft. Luhnow is doing a lot better in terms of potentional then Wade/Mclane ever did with unlimited money to spend
Hunsicker = Ridiculously overrated. McLane was actually middle of the pack spending wise when it came to the draft. He did get burnt by Chris Burke, and combined with a huge increase in the ML payroll, fell in line with slot bonuses for a few years. Since 2008, you can't really complain. Spent money in the draft. Spent money on international free agents. Opened an improved academy in the Dominican.
All Mclane did was spend a bit overslot for Springer and overslot for Armstrong(it's a shame he had to have TJ surgery), but when it comes to spending way overslot in the later rounds.....he fails. He couldn't sign Horace Granger, Gandy Stubblefield, or William Flamion. He doesn't draft risky players with high potentional, and when he does he doesn't sign them. He did get to sign Wallace Gonzalez and he did offer Jacoby Jones around 1 million back in '10.
