Well, this might be pretty quick.

I think Phillips will be getting something well above $201,900. Hopefully nothing outrageous. And it sounds like he just wants to sign that contract so he can play.

Yeah, his Twitter account was already a pretty big indicator he was planning on signing.

The college hitters are a great example of this. This draft has been something else.

Phillips's signing is surprise to most. He was supposed to be a extremely tough signing. Astros FO did the due diligence and got an agreement before the pick.

Maybe the other tough signings have agreements in place well. Lance McCullers has said as much. Rio Ruiz and Hunter Virant were the other two tough signings.

You can tell the Astros really put in a lot of work and preparation for this draft.

Damn, I know it's going to be a while to see these guys play, but for someone who hasn't been excited about this team since 2005, I'm glad to see the franchise turning around.

I don't know how you do it, tellitlikeitis. A little while ago I searched for lance mccullers on twitter to try to find some news. All I found was he said he wouldn't be "impossible" to sign, and he and his father were both drafted #41.

I can't wait for Correa to sign, so my inner armchair GM can come out and start looking at ways to spread the slot value out.

Virant says its 50/50 if he'll sign, he desires jumping straight from high school. Wants supplemental round money. Astros are going to need a few discounts here and there. This is first round talent and a major coup if they can pull this off.

What a change from prior regimes. It seems like just yesterday when all we drafted were kids we couldn't sign or eventual busts. I have to admit I had never heard of Jeff Luhnow before we hired him (was hoping to steal Friedman), but Crane and co. seem to have hired a great, young GM.
Of course, not all of these players we picked the last 2 days will pan out, but just seeing them do their homework on players signability, take calculated risks on high potential players, and manage the draft is just awesome to see.
It's still a few years off, but it's great to be excited about the Astros future again!

******* what a difference a change in regimes makes... I'll be the first to admit that I know very little of the draft outside of the top few players but in years past we would have NEVER made bold moves on players like this. We were simply selig's lap dogs. If we can sign correa, McCullers and virant.... Wow. In one draft we would have damn near tripled the amount of top flight talent we've typically had over the past 6 or 7 years.
