Well it's only possible to provide that kind of inspiration when there's a certain amount of reverence, respect, and importance given to the position. So the pomp and circumstance have to be there. I think another reason I like the monarchy is because it's a good target to go against at times. It can be a representation of so much that is wrong and worth fighting or rebelling against. I often admire and respect the rebels too.
Then that just makes it self-justifying and all about hype rather than something inherent. That seems like a rather bizarre reason. As much as I like Irish rebel songs I would rather just not have the thing to rebel against in the first place. I mean that would be like saying I like slavery because without it we wouldn't have had the underground railroad.
Except that it was England and not the idea of monarchy that were oppressing the Irish. Plenty of nations have done horrible things to different nations without being a monarchy. So the fact that there was a monarchy just added a type of personification of the enemy. It's like having an enemy that you are against but can respect vs. just having an enemy or horrible concept. I love southern culture, hospitality, food, and the genteelness of it. It's something steeped in history and tradition, but obviously I hate slavery. I'm a fan of history, and the monarchy is a tie to that history. As for it being self-justifying, of course it is. They aren't really ordained by God. But with the purpose being to inspire and be a symbol that can rally morale of a nation, that isn't possible unless the position has ingrained importance, respect, and pomp and circumstance. Again that isn't unique to Monarchy. Initially George Washington held some beliefs about the presidency that weren't dissimilar. There was a time that Jefferson who'd been his friend for decades was talking with another of the founding fathers, and they were debating whether it would be OK for Jefferson to touch George Washington when he was president. Jefferson was sure it would be. He went up and clapped Washington on the shoulder like he'd done many times before, and George just stared at him, and wouldn't speak to him for months or years afterward, because George Washington didn't believe he should be touched in a familiar way because of the respect his position deserved.
A. Somehow that's fitting that in America our royalty is a corporation. B. How on earth do you have so much free time to watch that crap?
