Did the Astros consider Jeter with the pick, is that why we keep getting these references? From what I remember Jeffrey Hammonds was the big stud prospect from that draft.
The Jeter / Nevin thing is a complete red herring. Yes, we chose Nevin over Jeter back in the early 90s. Obviously neither player is in this year's draft, and not all HS players turn out to be Derek Jeter, and not all college players turn out to be Phil Nevin. Just a very stupid comparison.
OK, everyone got their alcohol of choice for the MLB draft drinking game? What is it, take a shot every time Bud mispronounces a player's name or school, or a player's "upside", "potential", or "intangibles" are referenced?
Not sure, have to dig around. I'm afraid that if I break out the bottle of vodka I have I'll end up with alcohol poisoning halfway through.
