To be fair, if he had been a more effective vampire hunter, Edward would never have survived to woo Bella. Then we would have all been spared. At least the non-teenage girl part of the population.
Best part of this? My 12 year old is looking forward to the movie and is reading biographies on Abe Lincoln. "Reelecting Lincoln: The Election of 1864" is one of the greatest history books I've ever read, by the way. Looking forward to the movie. Should be fun.
Good to see a vampire movie not based in modern or post-apocalyptic times. The plot seems pretty worn (vamps wanting to take over) but I'm pulling for honest Abe.
Go pitch that Smoot-Hawley or Charlemagne screenplay and see what kind of heat you get. Hell, try to do something new made about George Washington, Thomas Jefferson or Harry Truman. You can't even sell a book about historical figures let alone a movie script.
I think the concept is brilliant personally. Some genius was being forced to watch Twilight with his girlfriend and thought "Abraham Lincoln would stomp these fools." Lightbulb.
Thanks for the book tip: imagine Truman running against MacArthur and having to choose Strom Thurmond as a running mate, then multiply it by a trillion.
If anyone goes to see this tonight, come back and share your thoughts. I don't think this movie will rank as a cinema classic.
Abe Lincoln was a bad ass, no doubt about it. He would probably be the first President I would choose to fight Vampires. He was tall and skinny, but he was country strong, and he knew how to swing an ax.
Abraham Lincoln was already about as interesting to me as any man that ever lived. So now you tell me he also fights vampires? **** YEAH I'M SEEING THIS!
I just saw it and I have to say that it was probably the greatest movie ever created!! Just kidding, it was about what I was expecting. Spoiler The movie is broken up into 3 parts essentially, the first part is about Abe turning into the vampire hunter (he develops pretty quickly and gets to the hunting), then there is this middle section that gets really slow but focuses on the political side of him and everything going on around that time, then the movie finishes up with more vampire action. The stretch of politics in the middle was so slow and different to how the movie started it may actually put you to sleep if you are expecting non stop vampire slaughtering, but that's the story of Abe Lincoln and he wasn't just a vampire hunter. As with any movie these days, almost all the major action scenes are pretty much shown in the trailers. I'm the type of person who loves movies and will go see anything and everything. After watching the trailers and acknowledging the ridiculous premise I wasn't expecting to see a two thumbs up movie but I thought it wasn't too bad. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) the general public will probably rate this movie anywhere from a 5.5 to maybe as high as a 7 (probably predominantly rating it in the 6 range). I would probably give it a 6.5 myself. I also saw it in Real3D at an AMC and the 3D part wasn't anything great. I'm not a fan of 3D because I think it is gimmicky but after watching a couple of recent movies in AMC's IMAX 3D, I realized Real3D blends into the movie better compared to AMC's IMAX 3D which look like random cardboard popouts.

I've never seen a movie that deviated from its source book as much as Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer. The book was pretty good and you could suspend disbelief enough to imagine all of this vampire business going on behind the scenes. The character development in the book was good as it showed how vampires had shaped Abe's life to a great degree and how those events shaped his views and intertwined with history. The movie was pretty out there and was even cheesy in parts. There wasn't much in common besides the title, some characters, and overall idea. The story was essentially unrecognizable. The story line was so altered as to be unrecognizable. Gone was the character development and back story, several characters (replaced with others in some cases). The events no longer interwove elegantly with the history, but the movie wasn't quite in the same mold, which is odd since the author and screenwriter were the same. I'm not even sure if I enjoyed the movie. I will say this - I didn't know what to expect at any given moment, despite having read the book. I don't know if I would have enjoyed it more or less had I not read the book either since they were so far apart in execution. My advice is just read the book.
Entertaiing Movie. Good action scenes. Story line seemed good enough. Characters were likable. I would recommend it.
