    First Trade:
    Houston Rockets
    Kyle Lowry (SAC)
    Luis Scola (SAC)
    #14 Draft Pick (SAC)
    Samuel Dalembert (ORL)
    Marcus Morris (ORL)

    Sacramento Kings
    #5 Draft Pick (ORL)
    Tyreke Evans (ORL)
    John Salmons (HOU)

    Orlando Magic
    Dwight Howard (HOU)

    Second Trade:
    Houston Rockets
    Kevin Martin (UTA)
    #16 Draft Pick (UTA)

    Utah Jazz
    Paul Millsap (HOU)

    Why they do it?
Sacramento: The Kings have an overabundance of wings, and in this trade they rid themselves of the remaining 15.66M on the under-performing Salmons' contract. The Kings also receive the floor general they lack, Kyle Lowry, and a solid complement to Demarcus Cousins on the front line, Luis Scola. This trade also gives the Kings more veteran leadership and maturity, which would provide a better environment for their young players to develop. The last things the Kings need is another rookie, thus i believe the #5 pick will be in play. Also, this trade opens up more playing time for Marcus Thornton (who the Kings already committed to with a contract extension) and their first round pick from last year, Jimmer Fredette.

Orlando: Orlando receives a young player that they can tout as their foundation piece, Tyreke Evans. They also receive the #5 pick (potentially one of Bradley Beal, Andre Drummond, Thomas Robinson, or Kidd-Gilchrist), along with Dalembert as a stop-gap center solution and Marcus Morris, who is a young, talented wing -- something the Magic don't have right now.

Utah: They Open playing time for Derrick Favors by moving Paul Millsap. Both Millsap and Martin are expiring contracts, so this trade does not hinder the flexibility of the Jazz in the future. The Jazz plug their void at the 2-guard position, which allows Alec Burks to have more time to develop. Furthermore, since the Jazz are giving up the better player in the trade, they also get a mid-first round pick in this years draft.

    Houston:
Core: Dwight Howard and Paul Millsap
Support Players: Parsons, Budinger, Salmons, Patterson
    Prospects: Motiejunas

Could renounce their rights to Courtney Lee, and have over 14.5M in salary cap space (including the Dragic and Motiejunas cap hold) to convince Deron Williams to sign with Houston. They could then recruit Dragic back as their sixth man. Finally, they could re-sign Camby using the "room exception" and fill out the roster with minimum deals.

    Potential Lineup:
    Williams/Dragic
    Salmons
    Parsons/Budinger
    Millsap/Patterson/Motiejunas
    Howard/Camby

Not sure where you are getting your information.

Restricted vs. unrestricted free agency is immaterial to the December 15 date.

ANY free agent signed outright by their former team cannot be traded until the later to occur of (a) three months after signing or (b) December 15 . . . EXCEPT if the player is a Larry Bird or Early Bird free agent, re-signs with his prior team, his team is over the cap, and he receives a raise greater than 20% in the first season of his contract, in which case that December 15 date is extended until January 15.

Restricted free agents who sign OFFER SHEETS with other teams that are subsequently matched by their former teams cannot be traded for one year (a) without their consent and (b) at all to the team that signed him to the offer sheet.

Sign-and-trade deals are allowed for either restricted or unrestricted free agents. It's just been that Base-Year Compensation issues have made most sign-and-trades of restricted free agents very difficult to accomplish under other cap rules.

If you are not an attorney you have an exceptional future as one. I would recommend contract law at a fortune 50 corporation. And the 150K ++ salary would be a nice bonus. Given my history with attorneys please take this for a big complement.

I proposed this trade earlier. I'm not sure Milwaukee would go for, though.

    Milwaukee (trades):
Monta Ellis (Better than Evans, Derozan, and Lee-restricted FA)
    12th Pick

    for

    Kyle Lowry
    Samuel Dalembert
    16th pick

    C - Camby
    PF - Scola/Patterson/Motiejunas (???)
    SF - Parsons
    SG - Ellis/Lee (???)/Martin
PG - Dragic, if no Dragic ...we could shoot for Williams, Nash, Lin, or use on the draft picks on a point guard

You still have Martin and Scola as trade pieces with the two picks.

Well I got to thinking today (a very dangerous thing I know, but that is what 2 pots of coffee will do for me). If We trade Lowry straight up for a top 16 pick in the draft what would be our chance of picking a PG that would actually appear in a single all star game?

I looked at all of the PG's selected in the first 16 picks of the draft from 1990 to 2007 and then checked how many of them actually make an all star appearance from 1990 - 2012.

I assumed that any PG chosen that made a single all star appearance was a better PG than Lowry. I assumed that any PG not chosen to an all star game was equal to or worse than Lowry.

So our chances of getting a better PG in and "average" draft - 1990 to 2007, picking one between the first and 16th pick is ~24%.

If we narrow it down to the top 8 picks in the average draft between 1990 and 2007 we would have approximately a 36% chance of picking a PG who is better than Lowry (at least according to my definition what constitutes a "better" PG).

Once we narrow it down to the top 4 draft selections the actual chance of picking a PG with at least 1 all star appearance is ~56%.

    Surprised?

    Lowry,
    Patterson,
    Morris
    Dallas' future pick
    to
    Sac for
    John Salmons

    Rockets trade:
    Martin
    Bud
    to
    Minny for:
    Milicic
    Johnson
    #18

    Draft:
    #5 Damian Lillard(insurance people)

Another interesting view of striking gold in the lottery.

Assume the Rockets manage to trade for the #8 pick and the #6 pick and they currently possess the #14 and #16 pick, what is the probability in the upcoming draft of them selecting a player who has 1 or more all star appearances in his career?

    ~13%.

There are 2 things incomplete about the above calculation:

The first is that this does not account for multiple all star appearances by a single player. So if they manage to select with their 13% percent chance a player who makes it to one all star game, more could follow. A simple modification that I will correct. The better question is how many all star appearances they could garner if they manage to choose a player who does make it to the all star game. Sounds like 2 questions to me. I will clean up the wording.

The second is that this calculation is based on the PG position. I will bring in the other 130 or so players into the spreadsheets and run them for all positions 1 - 5. This will increase the accuracy of the calculation for no other reason than more data will be processed.

I have been working on another way to view a teams chances of hitting pay dirt in the lottery, so more to follow. We shall see.

But given the probability of striking draft gold be careful what you are willing to give up.

Not really realistic as Lowry wouldn't be able to co-exist with Jennings. It's already a gamble with Jennings&Ellis, but two PGs at the same time is impossible, they also don't have a suitable option at SG if they would bench Lowry. They are better off drafting a C than getting Dalembert.

That's the thing. Jennings is not true point guard more of a combo guard, though in some regards he may fit better with Ellis, offensively. On the contrary, Lowry complements him more defensively. Lowry is the more ideal facilitator. The Bucks backcourt defense is not one of their strong suits.

The reason I brought this trade up was because I've seen on a few mock drafts and columnist who said that Milwaukee may draft Jeremy Lamb or Austin Rivers (that would be there shooting guard in my opinion). For whatever reason, it will give them another shooting guard. That makes someone else expendable, still it doesn't make any sense from their perspective to draft another guard (apparently it's being considered).

As inconsistent and fading as Dalembert is, what center in the draft is going to provide that type of production, immediately and possibly in the future.

Monta Ellis for the Rockets would be damn near perfect, especially if we could do it, while not losing a pick or moving up a spot. Ellis and if you can resign Dragic or get another quality point guard in free agency. You instantly have one of the best backcourts in the NBA. Though, it would be a hard move to pull off.

Rockets trade- Martin, Dally, Ppat, Bud
    Get- Gay, Barea, Utah pick

    Grizz trade- Gay
Get- Derrick Williams, Webster (exp. contract), Dally (team option pending)

Wolves trade- Williams, Webster, Barea, Utah pick
    Get- Martin, Bud, Ppat

Grizzlies get Derrick Williams to fill Gay's void along with potentially 10mil of cap space if they waive Dally. Wolves get Martin, Bud and Ppat who all fit well in the Aldelman offense. They also get rid of the log jam at PG. We get a guy who's overpaid in Gay, but can create his own shot instead of having to create off screens like most of our guys. It adds another dimension to our offense. Barea's just an extra pg if Lowry is traded or if Dragic leaves.

If we can keep Dragic, we could then trade Lowry and Morris to the Kings for Garcia and a top-3 protected 2014 1st rd pick.

Draft Lamb with 14, Taylor with 16 and Melo with 18

Sign Camby back to a deal similar to Dally's contract. Let Lee walk.

    Dragic/Barea
    Parsons/ Lamb
    Gay/ Taylor/ Garcia
    Scola/ Donatas/ Smith
    Camby/ Melo

Martin for Webster, Miller (a combined $1.5M guaranteed) & #18 would be the most obvious deal.
I could see Morey asking for more. Not sure how much the T-Wolves would be willing to give up.

They also have the Memphis 2013 pick. But I think MIN would want to dump Darko if HOU wants more than 1 pick.
