I know why. Because the 7th overall pick was Eddie Griffin. Kinda slim pickings after Battier. Not many great options.

badlee, you're obviously overly generous with your projections (ahem, 2 rings in 5 years). So I take everything you say with a mouthful of salt. Let's talk tipjar bet concerning Taylor's rookie stats. What say you?

Courtney Lee has no business near an NBA starting lineup.

This goes to only bolster my point...

We've got to change the culture all around the city of Houston when it comes to the Rockets. When someone actually WANTS Courtney Lee in your starting lineup...:eek::eek::eek::eek:

    Ummm...you missed one part.
Not saying that he shouldn't be starting, because he did in the playoffs for Orlando and did good. I'm just saying that we could use someone taller at that spot.

He's definitely a guy morey would go after. Seems like he would be the better version of Ariza. He's also a european. ;).

I'm thinking over/under bet on Taylor's rookie averages for points, rebounds, and assists.

Let's say $10 to the tipjar by the loser if the winner hits on all 3 categories. $5 if you hit on 2 of 3. Push for anything else.

Now we all just need to agree on a stat line.

I was thinking more on the line of him being in the running for ROY, but if thats how you want to go then 8pts, 4rbds, 2asst, 1stl.

No offense guys, but these tip jar bets on rookie stats for mid- to late first rounders are stupid. Even if the rookie has the talent to put up certain stats, so much depends on the situation in which that player is placed.

Look no further than the Morris twins. Most scouts had Marcus rated as the better prospect, but Phoenix took Markieff because he was a "truer big". Marcus went one pick later.

Markieff got to get minutes on a weak Phoenix bench in a wide open offense run by a legend in Steve Nash.

Meanwhile, Marcus--the more capable offensive player, mind you--struggled early with a position change without the benefit of practice, summer league or training camp, then got surpassed by a more NBA-ready second rounder who exploded onto the scene and absolutely made that starting SF spot his own.

Had Marcus been selected by Phoenix and Markieff by Houston--who allegedly would have taken Markieff had Marcus gone off the board--I think we're talking right now about how Markieff never got minutes behind Scola and Patterson; while Marcus got to put up some decent numbers with the Suns.

The SYSTEM and the TEAM SITUATION so greatly determine a rookie's on-court success. To bet on a (non-star) draft prospect's stats right now is simply foolish, IMO.

One thing that should be noted: Makieff wasn't actually that good in Phoenix overall.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/morrima02.html, shot 39.9% from the field with a TS% of .489. The scoring efficiency is basically on par with Trevor Ariza and Rafer Alston's when they were Rockets. He got minutes only because Phoenix had no one better to play. People got the impression that he was good because he was very hot from the 3-pt line in December and January.
