Instead of working, you get America 2012.

The simple solution to this whole economic crisis is cut off welfare and food stamps and section 8 housing. Either people will get off their ass and get a job, or they will starve and be homeless. I bet you would see many taking the former. More people working means a stronger economy.

Think about America in the 1800s. The most powerful country in the world. How much in food stamps did our govt give out then? How much free housing?

I bet it was a lot less then then it is now.

Amazing how many ignorant people still use the faulty "if you don't have a job you're lazy" rhetoric. We're a first world country. We don't withhold supplies from our poor and starve them off... the attempted dehumanization of the lower class is just saddening.

Its even more saddening when people equate laziness with being poor. Sure there are some that fit the bill, but they don't represent the majority.

Oh wait. OP is a Ron Paul let's go back to tribal societies advocate. Never mind. No use arguing with people like you.

Hmm or more people will get hungry, desperate and use violence and force to take from those that do have food.

I think people are too dependent on the government, but what jobs do you want them to get? The imaginary ones?

i think you meant 1900s, and really, just after 1945. there is certainly abuse, but there will always be a need for a safety net of some sort.

the larger problem is the expectation among many that if we just tax the rich enough, i can afford to have my degree in nose flute studies subsidized, as well as the post grad period while I'm working as a starbucks barista, because I didn't get a degree in anything that actually prepares me more life in the real world.

no problem with working at starbucks, or mcdonalds, but don't have $100k in nose flute debt and expect me to help you pay it off.

really, why must liberals constantly call their opponents names to convey their point.

it bespeaks a certain lack of imagination...and argument.

I'm not sure flooding the streets with desperate homeless people is preferable to paying for welfare.

We should have a bureau that evaluates every American every 5 years and if they don't meet the government standard for productivity we kill them. Maybe on live TV, with lions.

JD88 is on to something here. Since the nanny-state gub'mint has all of their addresses, allow those of us who can afford it to apply for indentured servants from the welfare list.

We would then receive their benefits and dole them out based upon the work they perform for our families. For example, if they mow my lawn I give them $20 of food stamps. This way, they work for it. If they don't work, we can write off the unused welfare from our taxes.

    Win win.

it's more of an individual poster thing than a liberal thing. if you feel you must stand up for the OP that's your choice. others will call him out for what he says and what it is.

you chose to correct the OP on what you thought he meant, but in reality, it was a dumbass post. and you threw in your bit about baristas and nose flutes to try and stay on topic.

so on that note, once we cut off all section 8 housing, what should we do with all that available real estate?
