If I read it correctly, his old passport expired in May. And his passport was listed as "lost or stolen", not stolen. How long does it take to get a passport renewed? 2 weeks seems pretty quick. Zimmerman seems like a guy who is prepared and stays on top of things. If his passport indeed expired in May, then I see no issue here. I just don't see Zimmerman becoming a fugitive over something he could easily plead down to manslaughter.
HELL YES it will hurt his defense! There are few factors more important in a self-defense case than the defendant's credibility. If juror's think a defendant is a liar, they are much more likely to convict The prosecution can now unequivocally prove that he is a liar and has already committed perjury. It's starting to reach comedic proportios the lengths and REACHES some of the defenders of this guy will go to defend the indefensible Assaulting policers, hitting ex-girlfiends, shooting 17 year olds and lying under oath aren't actions of good people.
Except perjury only applies if it affect the outcome of the case. And was he even under oath? Everyone knew Casey Anthony was a liar and look what it got her. Even if Zimmerman acknowledged the money was his to use freely for whatever means, I don't think this will amount to much.
As ever it's not as much celebrating his "idiotic" choices as it is fighting off the convictions for his "idiotic" choices.
