You are making s*** up that I haven't said. I wouldn't term Obama's efforts "successful" in that he hasn't been unable to overcome Republican intransigence and unprecedented obstruction. Had he been successful in those tasks, we would undoubtedly have a lower unemployment rate. In addition, my "dreams" for America are FAR different from the way things are today. What I SAID and what I maintain is the case is that given the starting point and the fact that the GOP has become a bunch of knee-jerking no-sayers who have opposed every single thing Obama has proposed, no matter how reasonable, our economy is doing as well as could be expected. This is far removed from my "dreams" for America or my "bar for success." To be certain, the GOP has been FAR more successful at keeping the reins on the economy than Obama has been at trying to spur it, but that is because the GOP is hoping and praying for a s***ty economy because that is the only thing that gives them a shot at Romney being elected. I hate that people like you are hoping and praying for a s***ty economy, but thankfully your hopes and prayers haven't been answered. We have had over two years of job growth, steady (if slow) GDP growth, and consumer confidence is on the way up. It certainly isn't the great economy that we had under Clinton, but it is FAR better than what we had for most of Bush's presidency.
Maybe they will hire when the business climate is more conducive to hiring. At any rate, the cold hard fact is that the Obama admin said the stimulus package would bring the unemployment rate down to 6% and instead we have had 40 consecutive months of 8% or higher. Spin it all you, but that is an atrocious record.
You are repeating a lie which makes you a liar. Obama never said such a thing and if you don't know that, you have been watching WAY too much Fox.
this chart was made by the Obama administration. Also repeating a lie doesn't make you a liar unless you know it's a lie.
a complete and utter PWN3ING of moon I love it. (but hate it that America has not had the job growth we need)
Which begun with the financial crisis during the Bush presidency. If the GOP hadn't overseen the worst economic nosedive since the Great Depression, perhaps we would be in better shape. If the GOP hadn't obstructed every single effort Obama made, perhaps we would be in better shape. You don't need to "spin" anything, all you have to do is accurately mete out blame appropriately, which you don't have the ability to do. To you (and all the other Fauxbots), everything is Obama's fault, which just isn't true, no matter how many times you repeat it.
Not that I actually expect you to read it, but here is some research around the effects of the stimulus. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/08/research_desk_where_would_unem.html
*snicker* If you think that one among dozens of estimates of the unemployment rate with and without the stimulus amounts to the Obama administration promising that the stimulus would get the unemployment rate down to 6%, then you are watching too much Fox. The next time y'all "PWN" me will be the first.
When Obama took office unemployment was 7.8 %. So the streak did not start under the Bush presidency. Obama spent well over a trillion dollars to 'fix' the economy. If only he had been able to spend another trillion.......... good luck selling that during the election.
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politi...-John-Boehner-just-wrong-about-Obama-stimulus House Republican Leader John Boehner delivered a stinging critique of Obama Administration economic policies at the City Club of Cleveland on Tuesday in which he said that “all this stimulus spending has gotten us nowhere.” Responding to Minority Leader John Boehner's call for President Obama to fire his economic team, Mark Zandi of Moody's Economy.com says Obama's stimulus package has been very helpful to the U.S. economy. "The stimulus did exactly what it was intended to do," says Zandi. "It was to end the recession and jump start a recovery, and it did that." When asked about that statement at a Monitor-sponsored breakfast for reporters on Wednesday, Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody’s Analytics and co-founder of Economy.com said, “that is just wrong, the stimulus has been very helpful.” Mr. Zandi was an advisor to John McCain’s presidential campaign. The Wall Street Journal has called him “the de facto chief economist to Congress.” In noting his disagreement with the Republican leader, Zandi said “we would be in a measurably worse place if not for the stimulus. I don’t think it is any coincidence that the great recession ended at precisely the same time that the stimulus, and in this case when I say stimulus I am talking about the [American Recovery and Reinvestment Act] ….was providing its maximum economic benefit.” That maximum benefit came in the second and third quarter of 2009, Zandi said. What would have happened without the Recovery Act's fiscal stimulus? “If we had not had the stimulus, estimates that are put forward for example by the Congressional Budget Office are exactly right. We would have 2-1/2 to 3 million fewer jobs today than we actually have. So employment – payroll employment – is off 8 million jobs from the peak. If we had not had the stimulus we would be off by about 11 million jobs,” Zandi said. Rather than a national unemployment rate of 9.5 percent, “we would have an 11.5 percent unemployment rate,” he added. The federal government’s stimulus effort, which totaled close to $1 trillion or 7 percent of gross domestic product, “certainly has not helped as much as anyone would like, although I think that is just a matter of expectations. I think the expectations were wrong,” Zandi said. “They were misplaced. But the stimulus did exactly what it was intended to do. It was to end the recession and jump start a recovery and it did that."
The unemployment rate when Obama took office was actually below 8%. And it's been 3+ years. It's time for Obama to own this economy.
You are going to quibble over .2% when we were shedding 750,000 per month when Obama took office. You are too funny! If he had been able to spend a trillion hiring people to shore up and improve our infrastructure, we would have been in MUCH better shape than we are today. That is just a cold hard fact, much as you would like to deny it.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>"There's nowhere to hide on this one" -- Mark Zandi on May jobs numbers. Very bad report.</p>— Jordan Fabian (@Jordanfabian) <a href="https://twitter.com/Jordanfabian/status/208536699440070656" data-datetime="2012-06-01T12:33:18+00:00">June 1, 2012</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> You were gonna quibble over 1-2 months The 1st trillion sent unemployment up, but that 2nd trillion was gonna do the trick. If only. Again have fun selling this during election time. No it's not a fact. Spending tax payer money has consequences.
Yes, by .2% and then it was over 8% the very next month, which can only be seen as Obama's fault if you are wearing Fox colored blinders. He does, he owns the two years of job growth, two years of declining unemployment rate, and two years of GDP growth. It certainly hasn't been as fast a recovery as I would like, but that is because the GOP obstructionism has been quite effective. The GOP are the ones who have put the reins on the economy by opposing everything Obama has proposed with regards to jobs and the economy. Instead of working towards an economic recovery, the GOP have been going all in on making the economy worse just so that they can win an election in 2012. The GOP's actions over the past three years have been execrable and I hope that the American public is able to see that.
you're STILL trotting out the tired excuse to blame it on Bush? Are you kidding me? Those days are long over. Why are you so blinded by your love for Obama, that you are willing to overlook the shameful job he has done with job growth?
What? No, the stimulus began the turnaround, read the link I provided. Again, you are choosing to lie rather than deal with facts. I don't have to "sell" anything. I just have to provide the numbers that show that the economy is improving, albeit slowly, along with examples of how the GOP has done anything and everything to slow the economy down in order to win an election. I am sorry you can't accept the facts, but they are still factual.
