Remember this being a huge selling point for TVs? Did anyone ever really use it then or now? Hitting Last/Previous Channel does the job much better I say.
I think DVR, TiVo and internet/laptop TV access made multiple screens unnecessary. Double sound has got to be disorienting.
I havePiP through Time Warner. I only use it while watching concurrent sports games, and even then it's just to see if the commercial break is over.
I used to use it if I had two games I wanted to watch and just wanted to see scores from the other one. Definitely not as useful now. DirecTV DVRs have the ability to pause one live one and then go to a different channel. And then pause that one and go back to the other one. So you can watch two live channels and not miss a thing.
Ever since comcast became xfinity my PIP is gone. I googled it a while back and it appears they disabled it for their customers. What a brilliant upgrade! I used it for football season and that was about it......
I had a TV with GREAT PIP. It had three modes- regular PIP, Split Screen (you could choose which side would produce sound) and a sixteen picture 'preview' mode of sixteen different channels that would flip through each updating still frames of my sixteen favorite channels.

Dish Network still has it on their DVRs. I use it occasionally, but not to watch both screens at the same time. I love watching 2 games at the same time and working the pause and swap buttons to perfection so I don't see any commercials.

I love it, but not for the intended use from years ago. On Uverse they have it for previewing what's on other channels. Great for timing commercials.
I do this, too. Have you tried the MULTIVIEW? PnPnPnP. (picture near picture near picture... etc.) I love it for my Spanish channels and Sports channels. My kids use it for their "kids" shows.
I disagree about the hitting last. While it is effective, with P in P you could just hit a button, a small screen would show up in the corner and you could tell if it was still a commercial or not. With last you interrupt your show and if you aren't watching live, when you flip back it will be live. I wouldn't die without P in P, but I do like it as a feature. I wish you could split screens, instead of having a small box in the corner.
