I think everyones is upset atleast a little bit on how the draft is conducted... Id like to find out everyones thoughts on how they would like teams to be represented...theres a lottery threads right now but i wanted a poll on how people think it should be conducted... 1)Keep it how it is 2)Expand the lottery to 5 3)Expand the lottery to 7 4)Expand the lottery to 14 5)Make it like NFL draft Me personally i would like to expand it to half the lottery teams(option #3)... i feel like it would slow down(you will never stop) tanking...
lol yes. Anyways. Each of the lottery teams should have 14 balls. This prevents tanking. Furthermore, they should show which ping pong ball gets picked LIVE. Instead of sending some Jabroni up to open an envelope that Stern hand picked.
Right now there is only 3 lottery winning teams... Im referring to if there should be 3/5/7/14 or no lottery winning teams...
Why 14 balls? Just 1 each makes it easier and it's the same odds. Gotta cut back anyway we can in these "times"
New ways to run the lottery to prevent tanking had at least 3 threads a month ago in the Dish. I guess this is a solution to prevent conspiracies? Well then, Bill Simmons idea of replacing the lottery with a worst team playoff should eliminate conspiracies, except then the refs are controlling the outcome....lol I still like my idea of replacing the lottery with a sealed bid system...weighting the amount you can spend by record, but allowing teams with cap room to use their available cap room as well as the extra draft money. Teams over the cap are limited to their regular rookie scale exception for their draft position. Only three players can be bought this way (the three with the most bids, based on the sum of sealed bids made on them), the rest fall under normal draft rules.
the team with the best record that didnt make the playoffs have a better percentage of winning the lottery...so just flipping the percentages. so rockets wouldve had a 25% chance, phoenix with 19.9% chance and so on and so on.
Personally, I think the lottery is stupid. The worst team should get the #1 pick. I know they did this to keep teams from tanking, however tanking can be an effective strategy to rebuild a team. Some speculate we tanked to get Hakeem in 84. If that is so then so be it. We enjoyed a long career and two championships with Hakeem.
I never ran across any of them threads... Also i confused on your proposal... i got lost in the wording... woildnt a team like the lakers (who have deep pockets) offer up the most money? Or are you speaking of using salary cap space as cash flow?
Why not this... 1- gets 14 balls 2- gets 13 3- gets 12 4- gets 11 5- gets 10 ........ ........ 14- gets 1 ball Make the drawing live? I still think instead of only 3 lottery winners their should be 7... So instead of the roclets being able to land 1,2,3,14 They could land 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,14
Beyond the conspiracy theories, no one has ever logically convinced me that it's a bad system. 1. It's a weighted lottery 2. All 14 non-playoff teams have a chance to win it, yet the worst teams have the better chances of winning a top e pick. 3. It discourages tanking more so versus an automatic, worst record wins out right. What is the harm in that? You intentionally lose every game, but still is not given a #1 pick. That's a deterrence. 4. The worst team typically consume the top 3 picks - The worst to 7th worst teams at that. I only two teams below 8th have ever won the lottery 5. Teams closer to the playoffs should by nature have less of a chance of winning, because they are fairly competitive teams. Even, last night I saw posters on here and on other fan sites actually being disappointed by not getting a top 3 pick. Yet, these teams were not awful and simply mediocre or fair. 6. It's a built-in concept that draws more ratings to NBA than standard draft by itself. In fact, the lottery is more entertaining than actual draft with the NBA. If it were rigged or manipulated in anyway. Someone would've blown the whistle at some point. Somewhere, someone involved would said something, because there would be alot of intrigue with such a revelation. 7. There's too much scrutiny and open eyes involved the process to actually rig a draft for specific teams. Moreover, a third party also handles the draft No one has said this yet, but which teams should've won the lottery, last night. Among the 14 team, people could claim conspiracy theory on any front, unless their team wins the lottery. People are always finding things to complain about when it is completely unnecessary.
Why seven teams or five teams? Who cares about the Rockets and their picks? They almost reached the playoffs, therefore they do not deserve higher odds for a higher pick to begin with. Though, if they receive in top 3, that's exciting for ratings, but it almost never happens with borderline playoff teams. Alot of posters are trashing the draft, because it's so unfair and so horrible. Though, this is the same draft system that brought us Yao Ming, because if the standard juxtapose teams by the worst record system were in place. We would've had the 5th pick overall. No chance at Yao MIng. So, the system only works for some people, if it's directly in your favor. If it is not, then it's a flawed system.
Make the # of losses determine the balls and have the entire top 14 as a lottery. For instance, Bobcats would have 59 balls compared to the Rockets' 32. Tanking wouldn't net quite the same advantage that it does now.
Because it would further deter tanking... I agree thay the lottery slows.down tankin, but it doesnt stop it... teams still stink for better odds... If its increased to 7 i believe it.would.further deter tanking and thus increase competition... would portland fold at the deadline? The wallace trade was good but everything else was pathetic... Would a crappy or below average team continue to play uninspired tankball when it knows 10 more losses doesnt still give you the advantage it used to? Or do you continie trying to grow as a team and play competetively....
This. The lottery should be conducted live and in full view of the world so that suspicions of rigging could be eliminated. What is wrong with conducting a transparent lottery?
