No chance. The 8th pick and DeRozan are both far more valuable than Lowry. Including Bud might actually worsen the deal. We'd have to give up a lot if we want DeRozan.
Why do people like DeRozan? http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/derozde01.html He is a low efficiency, one dimensional scorer. Many Toronto fans don't think much of him.
Hmm, get the 8th from Toronto, and then trade the 8th and 14th/16th pick for a higher pick, or a star/superstar? All while increasing our potential of retaining Dragic? I like it.
Kinda like adam morrison, jimmer creddette or jj redick? Scoring is way to gooood to not succeed in the nba, yet that is exactly what they didnt do... You shouldnt start of by sayin "not true". Your opinion is no different than the next mans... he could also tell you "not true" kinda like i did above... But i didnt say not true because i dont know the future... you have a strong feeling for lillard and he doesnt... they are both opinions and not emissions of fact... Instead of "not true" you should consider other phrases like "i disagree" so as not to offend others.. Sorry for jumping into somethin that had nothin to do with me but i am bored... For the record i see lillard alot like tyreke evans... pretty nice player with upside, but who truly knows... he could end up like kemba walker also...
Because he's young, athletic and has good size. Furthermore, I understand the term potential has been thrown around for far too many players in the league way too often but DeRozan is a player that I firmly believe can actually cash in on it. He has all the skills, tools and work ethic. I think it's only a matter of time before it all comes together for him. You see Herrera, the key is to find a player that has potential and skills to make it happen before they actually DO make it happen. Similar to a diamond in the rough if you may. By the time they really make it happen the asking price is too high, said players contract is unattractive or they're untouchable etc. I put DeRozan in the same category as players like Batum and Evan Turner They have all shown flashes but haven't quite blown up yet but they have the ability to really take it to the next level and become stars in this league. Most people knows it's coming. By the time everyone knows it's already too late. It's only a matter of time. You don't want to miss the bus if there is an opportunity to get a player like this.
Who likes him? He's an ok, up-coming shooting guard who Toronto management have high hopes for, but no one is clamoring for him. With Lowry, Toronto is high him, but I've also seen reports that they are very high on Lin, as well. One poster brought this up, earlier. How ever you evaluate Lowry's ability vs. Lin's ability and potential, it could be a push or pull in either direction (with Rocket fans, it'll be more in favor for Lowry, but other fans either player). Something else that Toronto is looking besides those mere player intangibles and skills are ... fan support/ticket sales. The Raptors only had one sell-out this season before the Lin game. It was a lone regular season game against Jeremy Lin and the Toronto Raptors. http://www.thestar.com/sports/baske...t-sales-ahead-of-game-against-new-york-knicks http://www.thestar.com/sports/basketball/article/1131524 http://www.usatoday.com/sports/bask...sses-border-as-Knicks-beat-Raptors/53098444/1 Teams take these things into consideration with player acquisitions. I hate to say this, but with Kyle Lowry. There wouldn't be any kind of buzz To say he's better than Lin is one thing, to say he's way better than Lin is a gross exaggeration. Also, you have to look at Lin's potential economically and ability wise. He's ceiling is much higher than Lowry's. Though, I will say I think Lowry's value is little underrated to general basketball fans/casual viewers. On the same token, it's overrated on Clutch Fans.
1. One reason for a team that has cap room to chase a FA to try and trade for Lowry now is certainty, both in terms of actually getting the guy and how much he costs. With Lin (or Dragic, or any other good FA PG), there will be multiple suitors for the guy and he may not pick you. Also, if a guy is restricted, the player's own team have the option to match even if the player himself wants to join your team. Moreover, many free agent signings that look great when it was done end up being albatross contracts. In fact, Toronto went through this not so long ago with Hedo Turkoglu. Sure, we can say that Lin and Dragic don't look like Hedos, but Hedo didn't look like Hedo to the teams that tried to sign him back then either (Toronto only got him after Hedo reneged on a verbal agreement to sign in Portland). Lowry, on the other hand, make less than $6 million for each of the next two years. After that, you get to make a decision on his free agency based on how he actually plays for your team. One more thing in favor of trading for Lowry if you have cap space to chase a free agent: His salary is small enough that even compared to a mid-lotto pick (6th-9th or whatever), it's only going to be $3 million extra on your payroll. As such, a trade can easily be arranged in which the team getting Lowry will still have enough cap room to chase the other desirable FAs on the market. Presumably, you won't pay big $ for a PG, but there are good players in other positions, too. So, the decision is not really "keeping whatever you would trade for Lowry + signing Lin/Dragic vs. Lowry trade" but rather "keeping whatever you would trade for Lowry+signing Lin/Dragic vs. Lowry + cap room to chase another FA." 2. On the other hand, the teams that do not have cap room or are in the luxury tax territory do not really have the option of pursuing a player at the Lowry/Dragic level in free agency. Toronto is not one of them, but there are certainly teams without cap room who can use a Lowry-level PG (Lakers for one).
And another thisn? WHy would Goran re-sign if he knows for a fact that if he gets hurt or misses any time, his young an up and coming back up is going to run him out of town in 2-3 years. Like our last 3 starting pg's Can we get a PG to start three seasons in a row? PLease?
Screw it, I'll take the 8th pick for Lowry. I think his true value is close to 6, but with him unhappy, if we can sign Dragic, I'll take the 8th pick at this point. I can't remember the last time we drafted even that high...
LOL So you think that Lilliard is going to be as good as Lowry how soon? I said years. You say what? Months? Weeks? Nope not gonna happen. It will be years. You can say one year. I think most everyone will disagree will Lilliard being as good as Lowry by this time next year. Any more than 1 year is YEARS. I think we can both agree there is a non-zero probability that Lilliard will fail to ever be as good as Lowry. Jesus Christ guy. And the guy plays for a conference that is not on any map but their homies.
jtr, let me be perfectly clear. I think Lillard will be as good as Lowry within a year and better than Lowry shortly thereafter.
Imo lillards ceiling is tyrrleke evans while his floor is kemba walker... he may have.a.huge rookie season and never live up to the hype or he could develop his overall game and in two three years be close to lowry or better... he could be a complete bust... its all speculation...being from a small school in a small conference.worrys me... he scored alot of points against inferior talent... im more intrigued on his passing and vision, which i read is decent but he never looked to pass because he had to carry the team...
Nice really nice. Finally a statement. "This time next year Lillard will be as good of a PG as Lowry". Wall did not make it. Irving didn't make it. Have you read the scouting reports on the Man? They say a lot of good things about the kid. From draft express: Lillard still hasn't shown a great deal in terms of pure playmaking ability, but he looks to have nice passing instincts on dribble penetration, and his role at Weber State calls for him to be their primary scorer, so it's tough to get a gauge of just how much of a distributor he might be in a different situation From nbadraft: Weaknesses: Not a true point guard ... Looks for his own shot first, which is expected for a player with his talent in the Big Sky, So he played in the Blue Sky conference (is that division 2 ... I forget), as basically a 6'2" shooting guard. No one knows for certain that he can play PG in the NBA because he has never played it before. And he sure isn't big enough to play the SG position in the NBA. You must be the best prognosticator out there because no body else out there has seen it. Have you thought about applying for a job with the NBA? They will be soooooo impressed when you bring your crystal ball. Hey people jopat has said "This time next year Lillard will be as good of a PG as Lowry". Thanks, I really needed a laugh.
Hedo was 30 when he signed with Toronto right? He signed a mle deal, opted out after playing well and cashed in. Derozan to me has upside big time. He took a step back this yr plus he's playing on a sorry team. I would make a play for him because he's shown flashes and has been productive. Look at Nene trade with Mcgee. Mcgee has production and upside whereas nene is done and going down. We've waited since 02 for this big with immense physical tool to become a great player and it never happened. Thats why I wouldnt have ever tried to sign him. I've said before, the rockets are in the wrong window. They need young guys with upside and production and hopefully they mesh and get better. As I said before, Brook Lopez would be my 1st target as a restricted fa.11.5 per would be enough to make the nets match and void a possible trade for howard. After that, I would negotiate a trade of some kind to trade to get either evans or derozoan. Use what you have to use to get it done. They need the 09er approach, but with beter players.
