It's one of my favorite books, but why can't they keep it a regular movie instead of turning it into a musical like all the other interpretations of the book?

So, what other musical movies of Les Miserables have there been?

I don't know, but I know that most interpretations of the book have been musicals rather than non-musicals.

My absolutely favorite musical. Gave me chills watching that. Really excited for it.

"Turning it into a musical"? You're talking as if somebody just now wrote the show. The musical setting of Les Mis is one of the most popular and beloved musicals of all time. It has been around for almost 30 years.

Plus let's be honest, the musical version probably has FAR more fans than the book interpretation. There's no way I can prove that, in that the musical has been going on for someting like 26 years, and has a far higher profile than the book. So more fans = more money.

Here's another interpretation of the book, non musical, I think:

I know that this thread is about the movie, but if you ever find yourself in London: see Les Mis (the musical) there.

I hate films that are produced specifically to win awards.

While I'm sure the production value is going to be excellent (it'd have to be for something this renown), I can't help but be a little upset Hollywood is again showing a total lack of creativity.
