I sure hope not. The Spurs represent everything that is right about basketball. Team ball with ball movement reminiscent of the old days when basketball was played with guys with brains and not just with guys with great physiques and athleticism. And their superstars play such team ball that posters like the OP don't even recognize that they are superstars.

Miami, on the other hand, represents all that was and is wrong about the sport. Primma donna players trying to win by combining their superstar talents, unloyal to the team that drafted them, but looking for the ultimate playing alongside the buddy of their choosing, don't want to and can't really play a team game. I am hoping San Antonio slices and dices through them like a knife through hot butter in the Finals. I like pure, clean basketball that involves all 5 players on the court cutting, moving, passing, and shooting the ball.

Meanwhile, we traded away 3 first round picks to draft Eddie Griffin, traded the rights to Rudy Gay for Shane Battier, and used 1st round draft picks on guys like Jason Collier, Dan Langhi, Boštjan Nachbar, and Luther Head.

To be fair, before the season nobody would put Duncan,Gino or Parker among the Top 5 players. OP was strictly talking about top 5 of players.

Gotta have a player who finishes first or second team All NBA....I believe every team that's won a title in the last 25 years has had at least one.

Tony Parker is 2012 2nd team all NBA.

Don't agree about Wade..... Wade played many years, his entire career for the Heat. It's only been the second team for Lebron and Bosh......

just goes to show how fragile the top 5 and top 10 and top 15 players are. They can change from season to season.

After this season, you would have to elevate Parker to the very top of the point guard charts. He has been the best PG in the NBA this year, totally unstoppable while playing the team game and making the right plays.

And after this season, Tim Duncan has to rate as the top center in the NBA. Yes, better than Dwight, who is now injured, and will be coming off injury.

If I had to win a game tomorrow and pick any 5 guys to win it, I'd pick Parker, Wade, Lebron, Duncan, and Dirk.

but Duncan should be among the top PFs......

Duncan is a PF for his career. But for this season and the remainder of his career, he is a center. He's bigger and longer than all but a handful of players in the NBA. And he plays the 5 spot for the Spurs currently.

For this moment in time, like I said, if I had to win a game tomorrow, he'd be one of the 5 guys I selected.

    ok...I'll play along...

    Let’s follow the Spurs recipe.

Starting with step 1: Tank and draft a Tim Duncan type.

Five star post. Good ideas, well worded, and most importantly, I agree with it :)

I would just like to add that superstar buddies conspiring to move to certain teams is not only a little like the monkeys running the zoo, it's bad for the game. The owners should be putting out a product to be enjoyed by the fans, not as a vehicle for stars to run up ring counts. Think if the young stars in OKC decided they all wanted to be Lakers.

I wouldnt call them superstars either. When fans have been talking about how we need to get stars, nobody ever mentions Manu, Parker or Duncan. They are all stars, but not super stars like a Lebron James or Hakeem Olajuwon.

Did you mean by saying Spurs have superstars not acting like superstars and Rockets need to take a lesson on players acting like superstars?

If you are a basketball fan and don't recognize Tim Duncan as one of the best Power Forwards of all time right now, you need to go to the hospital because something it wrong with you.

The b*stard actually just passed Olajuwon in game one or two for second place all time block leader in the playoffs. Even though age has no doubt caught up to him a little, he is still one of the best in the game, defensively.

That being said, the Spurs organization should get credit for molding the talent they have to gel with their stars and for acquiring depth to bolster themselves. They develop most of their draft picks into at least decent role players and the moves in FA and trades only helped the team.

I don't know if it is because we are just taking the 'best player available' or what, but we need to get people that will fit the team and bolster it and not just bodies for trades that may or may not occur.

Honestly, I think people expected them to finish in San Antonio. They are all pretty loyal. Duncan is arguably one of the best PFs to play the game and that is hard for me to say.....
