Somebody needs to make an animated GIF of Tyrion running up and chopping that dude's leg off. That was OUTSTANDING.

And yes, I agree there was some sloppiness in the battle once Tyrion led his men out. One hour for the whole battle almost wasn't enough. They kind of rushed things once Tyrion and his men got out there.

I don't know for sure but I would be very surprised if he actual dies. Think he more in shock at what had just happened when he closed his eyes at the end.

Also, this show hasn't really left any grey area when they've killed off a character, when they are dead they really make sure to show you they died.

In the books (I know, I know) IIRC, Stannis isn't on a ship. He and his army are on the other side of the Blackwater. Davos leads the fleet down the Blackwater and there are galleys that are ferrying the army across the river to King's landing. I don't believe most of the army makes it across. When Tywin the Tyrell's show up, they're on the far side of the river, and they chase away the majority of Stannis' troops which haven't crossed yet.

Sounds like they had to trim quite a bit of it even with a larger budget.

Could have been worse, it was originally planned to have the whole episode occur with Cersie and Sansa getting reports about the battle.

Ok, so I need to go back and re-watch, but ...

When Tywin rides in to save the day, isn't that Loras with him? So he bailed on the Starks even after his Renly pledged to be with them before his death?

I guess that exchange between him and Cat after Brienne's victory earning her position on Renly's "Seven" left some bad feelings? Or did I miss more of a reason that he'd jump to the Lannister ship? I guess it's more likely he just hates Stannis and wanted his first chance to get at him? Or maybe there's more of a plan that involves his sister and her desire to be queen?

I don't want any book direction here, just a thought on the reasoning leading up to him riding in with Tywin at King's landing, and whether I've missed something (the last meeting with Tyrion at Harrenhal, perhaps?) that would definitively explain Loras' joining with Tywin, aside from what I mention from general observations.

    That was him, right?

Also, Tyrion offended Ser Meryn and threatened to have him killed when he barked at him for scolding Joffrey. Between that, Cersei, and Joffrey, it's not surprising someone would take a swipe at him in the chaos of battle.

Aside, I was really impressed with Tyrion's resolve in this episode, as well as his taking up the reins in the defense of the city in both planning leading up to it and execution when things got real. Cersei is lucky her protection of Joffrey didn't cost them the throne immediately.

ok it was him, but that doesn't explain much else. I know they were the only ones there but I'm pretty sure they didn't think Cat or Brienne did it. Baelish basically told Loras it had to be Stannis' doing.

Lack of horses was because PETA raised a **** about HBO's other show where horses were dying on set. It sucks but what can you do.

Rewatch the scenes with Little Finger and Queen Margaery Tyrell and you should find the reason for the Tyrells being with the Lannisters, its a little subtle. And its not because Loras wants revenge, a major house isnt going to go to war because the the 3rd son wants vengeance for his gay lover.

I remember the scenes and her ambition... I guess I just wish they had explained it a little better before he came riding in. I will be watching that episode again soon.

Oh, Loras certainly believes Brienne is responsible for Renly's death.

After Renly died, his bannermen became unattached. Most went to follow Stannis but the Tyrell's didn't. Now we've seen that they've chosen to support Joffrey. We'll see more of why probably next season. The Starks were never really in the running. Cat tried to have an alliance with Renly (Robb only wanting to be King of the North), but all that went out the window when Renly was killed and Cat and Brienne immediately fled.

Yeah, saw all that, and agreed though I didn't think he really thought Brienne did it, especially after the exchange with Baelish the morning after the assassination.

Ok, sounds like I didn't miss any great clue or info, short of lending more to what we did see.

    Thanks for input on this.

I'll be watching that again here in a few. Thanks all. I remember the scene, and I thought I remembered the gist, but it seems I missed the formal connection as I -was- a little surprised to see him ride in to King's Landing with the Lannisters.

I believe Littlefinger also brought up the idea of negotiating an alliance with the Tyrells when he visited Harrenhal to talk to Tywin and Arya was sneaking around him trying not to be seen while she was serving them.

I think you're right. I was too busy trying to determine if he recognized her at that point, though I do remember Tywin talking about them retreating like cowards.
