Because of an incident about 4 years ago, I feel nauseous when I smell a beer. I drank way too much, got pretty darn sick*. So I want to start drinking beer again. Not drinking to get ****faced, but just drinking casually. Those I socialize with tend to drink the darker beers. Those look nice, but I'm hesitant to try anything and would appreciate your input on what would be the best beer to ween me back into beer drinking. When I gather with others now I'm pretty much reserved to whiskey, margaritas, shots, and any other kind of hard liquor. But that's friggin expensive. Should I try a darker beer? A sweeter beer? A lighter beer? Flavored? BTW, it was Miller Lite and Bud Lite that ruined me on beer, so I think I should go with something else. *To read about not-so-interesting incident, click here: Spoiler I was at a "party" and all the females were obese. It was depressing. But I didn't want to leave because at the time I was dating a b****. So I decided to go into a room by myself and play my own drinking game: watch SportsCenter and take a gulp every time anyone scores in any sport. I remember playing this drinking game by myself, then waking up in my apartment naked and covered in vomit and diarrhea with my b**** girlfriend yelling and crying.
Wow. That's a... fascinating tale. First and foremost, Miller Lite and Bud Lite are swill. I get sick drinking that stuff, too, though I'm a bit biased against lagers in general. My best recommendation is to go somewhere like HEB that allows you to assemble a six pack or two of your choosing for something like 8 or 9 bucks each. Get as wide a variety as you can, invite your friends over, and have them bring some things as well. That will allow you to try many different styles in a single sitting to help get a bead on what you might like without having to spend a boatload of money. Plus, if there are things you don't like, I don't doubt that your friends would be thrilled help finish them for you. Once you have determined your preferred styles (for example, I'm a fan of IPAs, Belgian Trippels and Quadrupels, and Russian Imperial Stouts to name a few), people here would be able to provide you with an abundance of recommendations.
You can't drink casually? Isn't that a good thing? Saves you money, and unless you are in a situation where you need to drink in order to live up a reputation (work etc.) just man up and drink the lightest beer they have.
After this weekend I need help to stop drinking beer. I haven't been able to get out of bed for 2 days.
I'd go with Guinness taste awesome and it's pretty filling so it will keep you in check. And I think one of the fat girls slipped you a roofie or something
One time I drank a bunch of 4 Loko and woke up naked on the couch to discover that in my drunkenness, I had stuffed my clothes in the toilet. My shorts had my phone, my mp3 player, and a full pack of cigarettes in them when I "decided" to put them in the toilet. I no longer drink 4 Loko.
My worst moments have come while drinking Shiner. I get drunk a lot faster than I do with Bud Light or Dos X. Its pretty good though so I can't stop. I would recommend drinking 1 or 2 every other day to get your tolerance up. Also never mix liquor with beer, that's just asking for trouble.
Drink soda. I don't understand why people feel they need to drink beer. If people are pressuring you to do so, find different company.
Per day? If we are talking 3 liters of pure alcohol (plus some Red Bull, Coca Cola or Tonic Water)...that's quite a lot .
Per day of course , I'm a student... Jokes aside, I only drink alcohol when I'm at a restaurant or when there's a party(and I barely go to any). In 90% of these cases I prefer beer.
She did not leave. However, she did start sleeping with her ex shortly after that. Also, guys, I realize that I don't have to drink beer. I'm not a young college student trying to fit in with some frat guys. With the exception of that one incident (and one other in New Orleans: see: The Hand Grenade) I've never really gotten too drunk. I merely wish to be able to have a beer so that when I go out with friends or co-workers I can have a beer instead of a Jack and Coke. Jack and Coke costs more and I am a cheap mofo. I do appreciate the recommendations though. I will try DosX. I also want to try Blue Moon, though no one here has suggested it. I hear it is sweeter tasting so maybe that will allow me to take a sip without hurling on the spot.
Have you tried a cider like Strongbow or Woodchuck? I can't stand drinking beer, but cider is somewhat decent tasting. They serve it at most legit bars.
