I know, that has been the problem with a lot of people on this board, the league has moved on, and scoring PGs are the way of the league now.

The new rules on the perimeter favor guys that can score also.

The days of the pass first PG are dying - they can still be effective, but dual threats are much more effective - look at the best PGs in the league, they can all score the ball effectively.

    Lowry can't.

Lowry's stats are older.... he has improved
Dragic did the same.... neither is very impressive.....

LOL - I give you points for being obstinate - we are never going to agree.

I will just be happy when Lowry is moved on....and you will be forced to evolve your thoughts on how effective a scoring PG can be....

    ;)

Fair enough, don't get too caught up, Dragic can and will be replaced in the future. Rockets are not a place of stability right now.

Depends, man. If we had near Durant's or Wade's offensive production at the wing on the team, we don't need a scoring PG.
BTW Lowry is not an offensive liability either.

Aren't you being too extreme? I understand you may think Dragic is better, I do too, however its not like Lowry is Rondo on the court. Lowry can score, he's just not an elite scorer. Lowry shot 0.374% from the 3 last season FYI. Its not amazing, but not exactly terrible either.

Lowry is a low percentage shooter, he can hit the 3ball, but overall I put high percentage at:

    45% overall is very good
40% on 3ball is very good

Both Lowry and Dragic are below that, but Dragic was a lot better as a starter - Lowry has had his chance, he is a decent option, but will never be an elite one...Dragic might not either but he has a better chance than Kyle.

Not trying to be picky at all but don't you think that 40% on the 3ball is a little high for just being very good? At least when talking about guys that play a whole lot of minutes. This year only 4 players shot 40% (rounded up from 39.5) or above and played more than 30 minutes...Ray Allen, Kyrie Irving, Arron Afflalo and our boy Courtney Lee.

There are always gonna be role players and great subs coming off the bench that can shoot much better than 40% but they are playing like 15-20 minutes a game...keeping that percentage up there while playing D for 30 to 35 minutes gets a little harder to do.

In a sense I agree, but the bigger issue is the threat. Rondo is a threat to get to the front of the rim and score. Westbrook is a threat to get to the rim. Parker is a threat to get to the rim. Brooks when healthy was a threat to get to the rim. Lowry is not a threat to get to the rim and minus adelmans offense,he can't get that half of man on the move to get there. As a result,he piled up good stat numbers getting to the ft line and in transition, but when the league started playing him differently, you saw his fg drop big time and he settled for long jumpers. They started contesting his drive and his offensive game declined. As noted, getting to the rim off the bounce. From what I've watched al yr, dragic can get to the rim off the dribble and threaten the cup. So teams have to play him and his teammates differently. They stayed on the perimeter players longer with lowry because he couldn't get to the rim. With dragic, they had to bail and help at the rim. He collpased the defense in a positive manner more often. That doesn't mean lowry can't be an effective starter, you just have to know his limitations.

Bigz, I agree with most of what you posted, but Kyle would benefit from dropping about 20lbs. His quickness would improve and enhance his ability to drive. I love Lowry but he doesn't seem to always been in tip top shape IMHO.

Caring about field goal percentage is a bit dated of a measure for a 'good shooter', no?

If you go to a stat with actual utility like eFG%, Lowry is at .486 and Dragic .518 the last year. So sure, Goran is great. Love the guy. Lowry is still a perfectly solid scorer from the PG spot, he just gets it with more 3s and less 2s.

All of the following are, as you say, 'low-percentage shooters' compared to Lowry:
    Rose
    Westbrook
    Conley
    Lin
    Rondo
    Jennings
    Sessions
    Felton
    Wall
    A. Miller

I agree. He always look like a lil fat dude. He needs to play at about 185 tops. 200lbs is way to much for a non explosive guy like lowry.
