I watched the story and he she mentioned college algebra. I never heard of college algebra and I probably took most of the AP tests. I thought you learned algebra in 7th or 8th grade.

College algebra is a middle-school level course for college students who suck at math but still have to take something to meet the minimum requirements.

It's more like high school freshman or non-honors sophomore level math in that it melds Geometry and Algebra II in a semester's time. You do well enough in Fall you'd be taking Calculus I by Summer Session.

Truancy is bull****. Nothing happens to people who drop out of school and waste their life away and become a burden on society, but when someone misses too many days of high school they get sent to jail and have to pay a fine. Ridiculous. If you want to be strict about kids staying in school/attending all their classes then I think people need to focus on punishing kids who drop out for no legitimate reason.

Someone tell me it's not like that....

Kudos to the judge for punishing the people who really deserve it.

Everyday she's let loose on society is a day that my safety is compromised.

She needs an Asian dad to get her under control -- NOT THE GOVERNMENT.

That judge was an ass, though maybe the quote was taken out of context.

Nothing that judge did was wrong, I believe there are rules against truancy and that asian chick knew them, but even if she didn't ignorance is not a valid defense.

It does not matter why a student is truant, the law states that if you miss a certain amount of days you will be punished. The judge simply followed the law.

Why do hard workers get jail, but child molesters get probation to rape again? Laziness is rewarded and hard work is punished.

There are some, but depending on which Asian population you're talking about part of the culture traditionally doesn't really include that kind of activism.

It's one of the reasons during the LA Rodney King riots police were at first protecting Korea Town, but then someone thought the riots were getting too close to Beverly Hills, so all the law enforcement was pulled back to protect Beverly Hills. Even though that neighborhood wasn't undergoing any problems, Korea Town was.

It was all about them protecting the community that would make the biggest stink if nothing happened, so Korea Town was pretty much just sacrificed but Beverly Hills which was never in danger was totally protected.

Until Asian communities start getting active that kind of thing will always happen.

A judge's job isn't to simply follow the law, but also to interpret it, that is, to make a judgement.

I can't imagine why any rational person would jail her.

because to them, the important thing is for kids to obey authority. bullsit if you ask me. this judge should be made an into an example. Schools are designed for specific types of people, and she is not one of those types. If she was doing well enough to pass, it's none of their business if she pays and doesn't attend.

judge decides to 'make an example' of someone who probably least deserves this sentence given her circumstances.

why doesn't the judge make an example of a scumbag teen who's involved in petty crimes as well or something. wouldn't that be someone better to make an example of.

**** the judge (and the parents too)

Unless you are rich, it's only a matter of time until our "justice system" grinds you into dust.

America the free, what a joke.

Yep. The penalties for doing 'wrong' are far more likely to hit you if you're not rich, and they're always going to be more severe.

Wealthy people can afford to make multiple 'mistakes' that have no impact on their lives .... while even a minor mistake can put you in the ground for life if you're poor.

This country is balanced on the backs of the working poor, but the wealthy have tricked many of us into believing that people like them, people born into wealth who make money from money, are somehow necessary.

    Judges in Texas are elected.

Edit. I was wrong. Municipal judges are appointed most of the time.
