They needed to shoot an inebriated 21 year old chick? She posed zero danger to them, I would have just knocked her the **** out.

 

The defendant hasn't been punished at all, she was physically hurt by someone rationally defending themselves against her actions. Also, I personally don't believe her prospective life after this decision should be more valuable or sympathetic than any other defendant's: that consideration isn't really even possible without a big helping of class, racial and gender bias. Criminal acts are individual decisions with single sets of circumstances and actions that are distinct from anything before or after.

However, in the broader context of the District Attorney's anxieties about the electorate, sympathetic juries, and the defendant's demographic similarities to both groups, you're right that the prosecutor will be wise to exert some leniency.

What a God damn waste of resources. It's probably her first attempt, she was heavily intoxicated, she didn't break in the door was unlocked. You know she's not going to get sentenced to anything more than community service, probation, some kind of forced rehab, or a combination of the 3.

I won't pretend to know what the legal definition of breaking in is, but I sure as hell assume it isn't this. The woman walks onto a lawn and driveway, into a house, hallway and master bedroom that isn't hers, doesn't stop when addressed by the occupants. Your indignation seems comprehensively misplaced.

And for the record, this is the law in almost every state in the US (with the exception of the stand your ground law states and a few states with no laws describing acceptable use of deadly force)
