He threw the coaching staff under the bus ("If things aren't addressed coaching wise..."). Regardless of how he feels about McHale that is unacceptable.

Just like every other decision under Maury, this one will come down to money. I'm sure the front office and the fans (not sure about which way the team itself leans) would prefer to have Dragic back. However, at what price?

Maury, as always, will place a number on his value of Dragic, and if some other team swoops in and goes well beyond that number I don't see much recourse.

Let's just assume that Dragic's value is ~$8.5m (no one on this board has provided an argument demonstrating inkling of what Dragic will ACTUALLY command, so we just have to guess). Two comparable PG salaries are Rodney Stucky and Mike Conley (both of whom Dragic edges out talent-wise).

For analogy, signing Dragic at $8.5m for four years would be the Houston Rockets of signings. In other words, mediocre.

While the Rockets remain in transition (eternally?) to contention, I'd rather have a player who is signed slightly under value (Lowry) than a player who is signed at fair, or slightly more than, market value (Dragic). After all, they're only assets.

I've highlighted that point in other threads, but other posters seem to think the Rockets will match any deal.

A team might throw $11 MM at Dragic.

Kings, Pacers, Raptors, or Blazers could do so. That's money you can't refuse if you're Gogi.

It's not so much what he said, but that he had to say it in the newspaper. If you aren't happy here in Houston, then speak with the GM directly. By making these remarks in the newspaper, it hurts everyone involved. Other teams may now view him as a trouble maker when he doesn't get his way. Kyle may have made it more difficult for the Rockets to trade him, is that what he wants? I've gone from someone who was a huge fan of Kyle, to someone who is tired of his act.

    Why would Kyle do that?

Morey answers the press when they ask, why would a guy with a guaranteed contract give two craps about the Rockets when they don't care about him?

It has nothing to do with him thinking the Rockets don't care about him. It is only about Kyle as a starter and nothing more. Kyle feels slighted because he knows he lost his starting spot to Dragic and he is pissed at McHale because he thinks McHale should have kept him as the starter. No different than what happened in Memphis.

By speaking publicly, I think Kyle hurt himself. If he really wants to be traded, it would have been better for him to keep quiet and let the Rockets work on a trade. What did Kyle have to gain by going public? Many GM's may not care if a player is a complainer, but some may care. There just wasn't anything for Kyle to gain by speaking publicly. I guess maybe in his mind this puts more pressure on the Rockets to make a trade, but I think the Rockets have been planning to trade him ever since Dragic proved what he can do.

While I personally think that Lowry acted very unwisely, I believe that he is a professional who will honor his contract and when called upon, and play his heart out for his team. All he has shown is a lapse in judgement and proved that he can be an angry young man.

This situation reminds me of last December, when Gasol was unfortunately was informed by the media that he had been traded to the Rockets. He let his emotions get the better of himself, and was unfortunately caught on tape. This led to hundreds of posts on CF saying something like "If he does not want to play for Houston he can go #%(* himself". Well people, Gasol, like Lowry, is a warrior who loves basketball and not giving his best (pulling an Odom) would personally abhorrent. I did not think that Gasol would do otherwise, and I expect Lowry to hit the court with his usual enthusiasm and aplomb.

I would recommend chilling and letting the team and Lowry work this out. Fans working themselves into a lather will not have any effect on the process, and could lead to heart attacks. LOL.

    Best.

Give Dragic 10m/yr won't win you a chamionship.

They are both at the same level but Dragic's salary would be twice as much.

We could either use lowry as an asset to trade up in the draft or in a package for an allstar like DH, but no way we just ship him away to give a starter position for Dragic.

The only way I see that could let us to be a championship contender instantly is trade for dwight and sign d-will.

Ask Cuban what he thinks about not signing Nash - basically letting him walk for $5 million more over the course of 5 years....

Biggest mistake he ever made, let's not make a similar one with Dragic.

Trust me, he is under contract and not going anywhere without generous compensation. That is the Morey way.

Who did he replace Nash with? Jason Terry? That situation was different. Here you got 2 pgs who are similar. The upside for Dragic is not so great that you should pay 5, 4, or maybe even 3 mil more.

He was freeing up future salary for the "second best center" in the NBA.
