It was the kind of place you took an out of town friend to instead of the more turist type places that they would say was the high point of their vacation. If you took someone not from the area to Kema back then they felt like they had the chance to experience something real and authintic.

Everyone likes to go to the out of the way places that the average turist does not know anything about when they are on vacation. That was Kema. I used to go there decades ago before they built the bridge. I still go there to buy fresh seafood when I'm in town but I think I'm actually in Seabrook and not Kema when do that. I've been on the boardwalk but your right, it's not like it was.

This is just going to be the Kemah boardwalk but in Galveston right? I agree Kemah is overpriced crap now.

I also thought this was a pier for strip clubs and I was going to be super excited.

This is really cool. Excited for this project. Wish we had more stuff like this in the Houston area.

Seems more like a copy of the Santa Monica pier to me (single pier, roller coaster, ferris wheel) as opposed to the more boardwalk like Jersey Shore style areas.

As long as it helps those who live in the area, it is a good thing to me.

went to Kemah Boardwalk once, never returned. everything about it felt like a moneygrab. the way Deckard describes how it used to be really makes me long for it, even tho i never visited Kemah before.

As long as it's east of 61st, I'm good.

Please continue to keep all the riff-raff east of 61st.

What in the hell name is Pleasure Pier? Sounds like something el_hitman would manage.

So what happens when the next Hurricane hits? That had to cost a fortune to insure.

While I don't plan on visiting the pleasure pier anytime soon, I think this is fantastic for Galveston. Nothing wrong with creating jobs, and giving parents someplace to take the kids. I hope it's a big success.
