whats weird is that the obviously jewish roles are always played by non jewish actors. the guy playing Wolfsheim is an Indian actor they have all these byzantine rules about depiction of the Tribe in Hollywood. as for the movie it looks good? it's still hard to believe that Leonardo DiCaprio turned out to be a good actor
Visually looks great but man. It's like bunch of guys in their 30s acting like they're teenagers. You got baby face Tobey and Leonardo in the same movie playing and reading their line so damn awkwardly or is it badly?
I remember having to read this torturous novel in high school. Forgot the plot but read it on wikipedia and wanted to wretch. A boring story with revolting and unsympathetic characters.
It's a shame there's not enough era-appropriate music to use in a film about 1920s America. Oh, wait. That's right. There is. Douche.
Didn't really think about it at the time, but you're right. His prose is quite nice. Unfortunately, the story bored me greatly when I read it in high school. But I guess it's to Fitzgerald's credit I actually read the entire book rather than using cliff notes to fill in the gaps.
That does not look like the 1920s. Looks like steampunk without the actual cool aspects of steampunk. I know that yellow/gold is a huge theme of the book, but wtf.
Ya know.... I just don't like DiCaprio. There isn't one movie I've ever seen him in that I've liked. Not one.
Oh wait! He was in The Quick and the Dead. And even though that was a cheesy western, I liked that movie a little and I think DiCaprio did okay in it (he had a smaller role). ....but that's about it.
Ha I'm just playing with you because personally I think he is the best actor at choosing roles ever. Until that piece of crap J Edgar his resume was almost flawless since Titanic. I <3 me some Leo.
The Great Gatsby is all about Fitzgerald's writing and prose. It's also why I suspect this movie will be less about the story and more about a visual display of the wealthy in the 1920s. If you're a big fan of the book, then you'll be disappointed. If you want to see a visual of the 1920s with some sort of story thrown in here and there, you might like it. I suspect most people fall in the latter category.
It's one of the greatest books of all time, and I totally made an A on my essay about it in High-School. That said lets see some 1920s bimbos!
Wait... Seriously?! Didn't like Inception, Blood Diamond or Departed? I always thought the concensus was he was one of the best actors today.
David Thewlis was not impressed after having worked with him. He described his acting as playing "Malibu".
