We bought an XBox a year ago, and fortunately I bought the Best Buy warranty. It's chewing up our game discs now. It makes an awful grinding noise, and has ruined one game already. I did, however, buy some games directly by downloading them on to the XBox. I'm assuming that once we buy the new XBox and upload my account, that it will allow us to download those games again on the new XBox unit...right?
Like the previous guy said they're attached to your gamertag. With that said you'll have to get someone from support to transfer your licenses over for the games. Dealing with their support is a huge pain in the ass, I'll leave it at that.
You can just transfer the license to a flash drive and then to the new box. I did that when I upgraded to the slim model last year.
Sometimes it's not that cut and dry. You're right though, it's supposed to work this way. It didn't in my case.
To think, I still have an original 360. Had to send it in once for an error code, and sent it in again when the open tray button quit working, but only did so to extend the warranty, since it still opened with the remote or from the dashboard.
Like everyone said here, your download purchases are linked to your GamerTag. and you will also want to transfer your licenses to the new console. You can follow these steps: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live/marketplace-and-purchasing/download-content A main reason why you want to transfer licenses is so you don't have to be online to play downloadable content.
Just dropped it off at Best Buy, and they are going to send it in to be fixed. We pulled the hard drive out and kept it while they fix the problem. Thanks again, guys.
Have they loaned you one or have you heard of WorstBuy ever doing that? I don't think those peeps at WorstBuy are that nice.
