The question really should be, "Is Deron and Dwight an upgrade over Pau and Goran?". We can trade for Pau. We will probably trade for Pau if we can't get Dwight. And Pau would be an upgrade along with Goran at the point. In my opinion, Goran is better than Lowry. In my opinion, Deron is better than Goran. Although probably not by much. In my opinion, Lowry is great value for his contract. He's a top 10 PG in the league and he's making MLE money. When you consider what Deron brings with him......er what Dwight brings with him, you have to go with that combo....if you can get them. The good thing about Morey is if we can't get those guys, we still got lots of options. They're just not as good. Along with Deron there'll be somebody else come with Dwight. There'll be a Ray Allen or an Andrei Kirilenko sign for the MLE to play with those guys. You gotta try your best to get Dwight and create the cap space to sign Deron.
I would have thought my reply of "Or we could just transplant Camby's brain into Odom's head. Now that would be an asset!" might have clued you in.
I caught it. Odom is a waste of time. He's hanging with the Kardashians and living the dream. He no longer has a head into which a brain could be transplanted.
But it's not you. It's not even DM the GM (apparently). One has no choice but to be responsive to the owner; or one has to effect the desired response from the owner. So, do the Rox save funds to offer a Harden a max and dare the OKCers? Do the Rox roll the dice with Howard? Is Josh Smith a good enough uptick in talent? Is Derrick Williams a gold nugget ready to be mined? Might the ping pong gods shine merrily down (sigh)... Really, how do you find the perfect storm that was TMc? Because that is what is needed. A supremely talented and charismatic star in NBA eyes everywhere - - and wanting to come to TheToyShop with a (hockey GM) in love with the (already fading) fortunes of Stevie Franchise et al.
You are right about that. The luxury tax fire sale is just commencing and for the first time Morey has the roster pieces and the cap to make something happen. We will see.
There were I believe 6 NBA franchises that posted a profit last year according to Forbes. When the luxury tax really kicks in some of these franchises sweating blood and holding stars are going to start hemorrhaging money. Heck even Cuban and his 1.4 billion net worth blew up the Mavs in preparation for luxury tax hell. He did not even wait to try to get another ring and admitted that the looming cap tax increase was a major contributor.
DD not pile on you here but for years hasn't it been the philosophy of you and the rest of the folks around here to have the Rockets picking up firesale guys and guys off the NBA garbage heap on the cheap because it was the "low risk - high reward" thing to do? Just how did that work out for the Rockets?
You're a great poster but every time you talk about us trading for Dwight (and Deron) I feel like that dude whose face is melting in the "Prometheus" trailers.
My philosophy is to draft as high up as possible, that being said, taking on some low risk guys is fine with me too, but you have to play them - A LOT - to find out if they can play. And my expectations for ANYONE picked up that way are not high, in fact, I expect it to fail 90% of the time if not more. It is just something to try because Le$ won't do the right thing. The right thing is what got us Sampson, Olajuwon, and Ming...... DD
After all these years, you thought people got his family name right. Well no... Yao is the family name.
So Pau can't hack it as 3rd fiddle behind Kobe and Bynum and we want him as our "star" (who's on the wrong side of 30). NO THANKS! Howard won't come here. End of story. I heard a rumor the only reason he opted in to an additional year with Orlando was b/c he was on the verge of being traded here and he did that to c0ckbl0ck that deal... Next option?
If we lose out on the D-will and D-Howard sweepstakes, and not biting on Gasol, where do we go from here? We missed out on Bosh, then Anthony, and most likely both of those players. Do we keep running on the treadmill? Try and assemble a solid team ala the Pacers and hopefully get lucky? Or do we just blow it up and tank?
