I know I'm late, and maybe just fanning the flame, but this is just pure bullsh!t. What a bunch of peons without pulpits.

I don't know you Manny, but I am really glad you are OK. I am appalled at what this thread has become. The guy has a cautionary tale, and is showing you enough respect to be honest about what you should be cautious about. You all should be saying thank you for shining a light into your abyss. Thanks Manny for sharing.

Just to clarify things: we HAVE had cordial times, or at least have had cordial exchanges on the board, and I don't know you off the board.

Manny didn't even start this thread. Wow, this is a trip.

I don't know you Manny but careless if far from illegal. Yours is a mistake that most of us have made, and your acknowledgement of it has done far more good than harm. At least for me.

Get well bro and ignore the hecklers, they hate that.

It was a LONG time ago & you have emailed me off the board (about twice) although it was years ago. Once I figured out your shtick, I quit being friendly to you. Sorry.

    Wow!

    SacTown...

What a douchebag prick! Please go track down Bigtexxx, so the both of you can just stare in amazement of eachother for all of eternity!

    Manny,

Thanks for the honesty and I hope you get back on top sooner rather than later.

I, for one, am guilty of using my cell phone quite a bit while driving. I guess it is one of the many things that I do that I know is dangerous but I (wrongly)assume something bad will never happen to me because of it.

Hopefully, I can learn from your (admitted) mistake.

    Again, thanks!

    Manny,

Now that you are feeling better, I think it is time we settled a decade long dispute, as to whom can type the fastest.

    Ready? Set?

    GO !

    ;)

Glad you are recovering old chum.

    Manny,

Glad you are back and not under the knife anymore! I can definitely attest to driving while being on the phone. Hell, I've even been foolish enough to TEXT, for that matter. I try not to make either a habit, but **** happens. You live, you learn. Screw all the negativity. It sucks it happened to you, but what matters most is that you are at least alive, with us. Godspeed recovery to you, Sir!

lol, wow Thought this thread was a BJ for everyone thread, and I was missing out.

Turn out to be Manny vs Swoly in a steel cage.

    Bottom line, **** happens.

I don't like to, but i've used my phone in the car. Not proud of it. Fortunately, never been in an accident or anything.

I, too, frequently use my phone in the car. I do use an ear piece though, don't know if that helps much.

On another note, I just got slammed from behind while stationary on a red light. Dude was apparently using his phone and he was looking left and right for a place to eat (at least that's what he said). It is dangerous, I wasn't aware it could possibly make you miss a red light.

Just remind everyone to be careful and wishing us all a safe travel.

While we're on the topic, what is the exact reason it is illegal to use a cell phone while driving? Is it because it can distract you? Or because it leaves you with only one arm to drive? Or because you are taking your eyes off the road while texting?

Can't many other things cause these exact same thing? For example, setting your GPS. Or eating a burger/fries. Or even talking to the person in the seat next to you.

Having only one hand free is part of it but the bigger problem is that it can distract you. Studies have shown that compared to those other things that a cell phone is more distracting because it is interactive and you are interacting with someone who isn't there in the car. I use my phone in the car occasionally but always hands free and I try to pull over when I can. This situation is going to make me rethink how much I might use my phone while driving.

it's all of the above. even something as simple as an audio book is distracting although it's handsfree. it causes you to concentrate on something else besides the most important thing, driving.

let's put it this way. statistically a lot of accidents happen due to distraction caused by using cell phones while driving.
