don't give me this age BS. I met Rocketgirl00 and she knows everything about the Rockets history, Ralph Sampson to Vernon Maxwell. If you don't like the station that plays Public Enemy and Tribe Called Quest, switch it over and listen to your LMFAO and Selena Gomez
I clearly said I know about Rockets history. But I have no connection to those teams that failed in the 80's. You want to talk about being a true fan? How many games did you go to this season?
you realize I've been on the board for along time and know when someone is trying to derail it? I understand you feel no connection, but if you KNOW ROCKETS HISTORY, what would you tell someone about this topic? There's two options in the poll, if you haven't noticed. And yes this topic comes up ALL THE TIME. Clutch was on the radio telling Orlando folk that yes in 95 jordan was there.
This topic comes up all the time, because you bring it up all the time. I'm not gonna sit here and play the "what if" game on something from the 90's. Jordan never faced the Rockets in the Finals because of John Stockton and Karl Malone. The end.
Let's say the Bulls beat the Rockets in 94, the Rockets wouldn't have had that championship swagger to take them in 95. That swagger was a major part of why the rockets repeated. Rockets took Knicks to 7 games, Bulls were better than the Knicks and probably woulda had that home court advantage. So it's a strong possibility the Bulls 4-peat. People bringing up regular season matchups like it means a lot. Playoffs are a different animal, everybody knows this. Didn't the Jazz own the Bulls as well in the regular season throughout multiple regular seasons? But Playoffs, much less the NBA Finals, are so much different. Bulls beat the Jazz. Jordan came back in 95 but he was rusty, he still dominated but you know what? If he wasn't rusty he would have dominated more than that, he wasn't in postseason form, no matter how good he played. Can't fault him for still being able to beast w/o much prep.
I have to give you an F on Rockets History. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/f0WrOhfMjrU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> then this happened afterwards <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/7uucgJScxgk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Really? You're assuming that if that had not happened, the Bulls would have won that game, the next game (game 7), beat the Pacers in a 7 game series, and then face the Rockets? That is a major reach, and you know it. I was referring to this: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Qobv8yUTJ_E?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I don't care if I get neg repped for posting this blasphemous video.
Duh, I know what you're talking about. But if you talk to anyone who disregards the Rockets championships, they mention Jordan not being in the league in 95, which is false.
I agree. But that isn't the Rockets' problem, they won the championship. Everyone else can suck it. That's everyone else's problem for not knowing, not remembering, not taking the time to do a quick google search.
this is team sports so I don't think it's a fair comparison. if we do the starting five. I'd go with Hakeem and the Rockets with Clyde.
Perhaps you take the definition of fanatic too literally... 1. I am not as young as you make me out to be... 2. I consider my self a die-hard houston homer...considering that i am stuck outside of houston with work purposes...and actually attend games just to watch my team play 3. Just because i dont support "your" personal opinion doesnt make me a "fake" fan... 4. I do also dwell on facts...Jordan in his prime prevented Hall of famers/Allstars from attaining titles..Malone, Stockton, Barkley, Magic(title #6), Payton, Schrempf, Kemp and Drexler Finals history UTAH:4-2(twice) and 97-98 won 3 times at UTAH... SUNS:4-2 won the first two at PHX, and won game 6 in PHX... POR: 4-2 Sonics: 4-2 LAL: 4-1 In the 6 title run years...the Bulls only had 2- 7/elimination game series(Knicks and Pacers) In our 2 title run years...we had a total of 4- 7/elimination game series(Phx-twice, Knicks and Utah) Hakeem and Jordan in the finals...always will be the biggest question mark...b/c Jordan never really faced a true low post threat(offensively and defensively) in the finals...and Jordan in the 90's became god... I believe that the Rockets would have gone 1-1...The Rockets did have another chance in 97 with the HOF trio of Hakeem, Drexler, and Barkley...but UTAH and John Stockon ripped my heart out...i was in the gym for that game...
Reg Season Records: 1990 Houston 1 - 1 Chicago 1991 Houston 2 - 0 Chicago 1992 Houston 1 - 1 Chicago 1993 Houston 2 - 0 Chicago 1994 Houston 1 - 1 Chicago 1995 Houston 1 - 1 Chicago 1996 Houston 0 - 2 Chicago 1997 Houston 1 - 1 Chicago 1998 Houston 0 - 2 Chicago
You know, tinman... ...I admire your passion. I do. None of it is misplaced. I won't insult or berate you, though. Not to prove how much I love the Rockets, to you or anyone, though. Michael Jordan, the Bulls, the Chicago papers, ALL acknowledged (as you pointed out) that the Rockets could challenge and beat the Bulls. I don't remember saying anywhere that the Rockets had no chance against the Bulls. I didn't say that if the Rockets had faced Chicago in that series, I wouldn't be behind the Rockets 1000%. What I did say was that the challenge to beat the Bulls (and Michael Jordan) changes with what's at stake. And that neither the Bulls nor the Rockets had a clear advantage over the other in a seven game series. And it WOULD be a seven game series. Nobody (not the Rockets or the Bulls) were going to win a short series. A funny thing happened in game 2 of the 1992 finals (Portland against Chicago). The Bulls were down by almost twenty points in the fourth quarter of that game. All of those guys for the Bulls you mentioned earlier (with Jordan and Scottie Pippen on the bench for the entire period) came back and beat the Trailblazers. Their team seemed to have some pretty clutch players on it at the time as well. There were some Rockets who could rise to the occasion, too. That's why I said from the very beginning that no matter what Jordan or Olajuwon did or didn't do, their teams would decide most of those contests. That's why I said that I would have loved watching every second of it, because it would have cemented away any argument as to Hakeem's greatness (which would not be in question by anyone with a thimble of basketball knowledge, anyway). I would have left the strategy and stuff to the coaches, myself. Phil Jackson wasn't a bad head coach, as I remember. Rudy Tomjonavich knew his players inside and out, and knew how to get every inch of effort out of them that he could. Jordan, in a theoretical matchup with those Rockets in 1994, would have had all the motivation he needed, citing all of those problems that the Rockets historically gave his team, to play better than his best. The same way he got fuel from the bullying he took from the Detroit Pistons for a few years before he beat them. If that's what you think I was doing, rooting for Jordan to win because I give the man credit for his performances, then all you or anybody else was ever going to see me as was some hater. Or a b****. Or a "fake" fan. Fine. I get it. I'm like that about the Dallas Cowboys, actually. If they aren't playing in the Super Bowl, I barely bother watching the game. I hate the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Washington Redskins...I don't care who coaches them or plays for them. Nobody made me sicker than the Boston Celtics in the 1980s. I would have volunteered to be one of those guys Moses Malone said he'd take out of the 'hood and beat the Celtics back in 1981. So yeah...I get being a fan. I'm not bad at it, either. Not as good as you are...but then nobody's perfect... ...or even a Rockets fan...
I'm not saying you were rooting for him or not, I have no idea. I'm just saying if you were there Bulls vs Rockets and root for the Bulls, then yes you are a Bulls fans not a Rockets fan. When Cartwright elbowed Dream in the face, I got pissed like every Rocket fan. Imagine if Bynum broke Yao's eye socket? You can say that you think you think Jordan would never lose, but I remember when the Lakers with Kobe/Shaq in their prime faced the Pistons, they were given ZERO chance of winning. Assumptions.
Not sure why this even matters. People can speculate all they want. You'll never be able to say for certain who wins or who had an advantage because they never met in the Finals. The Finals are a completely different story to regular season match ups. That's a fact. I couldn't care less about this kind of speculation because there just really isn't anything you can say to prove either sides argument on who would beat who. It happened, it's just the way it is. That's it. One thing I can tell you though, from the Bulls fans I know... they certainly don't care. It's usually others (whether it's Rockets fans or fans of other teams) that bring up the whole Jordan scenario of if he didn't retire would the Rockets have those titles.
