Anyone here listen to classical? I want to change it up a little, and this might give me some inner peace if I listen more to music such as classical. Plus, it might be easier to listen to classical than music with lyrics while studying or working.

So, can anyone give me recommendations on what to listen to? I would guess it would be from Bethoven and Mozart, guys like those? Do their music come out via album (collected) or do I have to get their songs separately?

    Thanks.

There's a wide variety of different styles that get labeled classical, so you'd have to take a listen to different things to get a feel for what kinda stuff you like.

Music is available in albums, but often it will be organized by the performer so it depends on what the performer chose to put on the album. The music might be all by the same composer or it might be a few different composers.

Here's a few suggestions to get you started (I won't embed the links in order to not clutter the thread).

    Chopin Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGRO05WcNDk
Mozart Symphony #40 (first movement): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hJf4ZffkoI
Beethoven Symphony #5 (first movement): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4IRMYuE1hI
    Liszt Liebestraum No. 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4XEPdYO5mM
Schumann Op. 12, Aufschwung (Soaring): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=us9I0ERLj20
Ravel String Quartet (Second Movement): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-C8nvOBdQ8E

Honestly, there's SO much music out there to explore. Let me know if you have any questions or if you could somehow give me an idea of the kind of things you like, I could point you to more similar music.

Now listening to Vivaldi - Four Seasons. Excellent. Thank you. And to AFS, thank you for those links I'll check them out in a minute.

Quick question: does anybody listen to classical music while working out? I wonder what kind effect that would have. Haha. Right now my workout music is all Eminem.

Hmmm, now that I've listened to it some more, Vivaldi is a little too intense to listen to if I'm working or studying something.

    Vivaldi is VERY intense.

You should try something a little more laid back. Like a Wagner opera.

It is intense... and much better to play if you can play a string instrument. He's my favorite composer. I forgot you said "studying and working"

On another note, I played Final Fantasy VIII's "First Love" on the piano for a gf of mind in the past. We then had one of the best secks we've ever had soon after.

jk i can't play the piano that well

and we didn't have teh secks

    :(

Try Georg Philipp Telemann. A contemporary of Vivaldi, similar style, but just a bit lighter IMHO.

A few that come to mind:

Figaro's aria from Rossini's The Barber of Seville (<-- HGO did this last week at Miller Outdoor Theater....we have an AWESOME opera in Houston. If y'all don't know that, you should). Actually, just listen to all of The Barber of Seville.

The Queen of the Night's aria from Mozart's The Magic Flute. Actually, just listen to all of The Magic Flute.

The finale from Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio (aka Il Seraglio aka the "Too many notes" opera). Actually, just listen to all of Il Seraglio.

Mozart's Requiem. I freakin' love Mozart, and Requiem is one of my favorite pieces of music by anyone, ever. Not coincidentally, it's been in my signature here for years now.

    This one, too:

I liked to listen to Beethoven's piano sonatas when I studied, the Waldstein probably being my favorite.
