This wouldn't have happened if AstroWorld was still around.

They'll probably argue that the washer is unsafe because it does not have an unlock function after it gets closed. A position that I actually agree with. It's stupid to have laundry machines that are unable to open once you start the process. Not as stupid as throwing your kid inside the washer and then closing the frigging door, though

I think the auto lock is so you don't have to keep an eye out on your stuff the whole time. Well, that was the benefit for me when I went to laundromats. Perhaps it's just about heat pressure or something.

I agree with this. Not saying the parents are clear of wrongdoing but I've never liked the locking feature on my washer at home. Kids climb into spaces on their own all the time, there should be some type of safety feature much like most car trunks have glow in the dark releases on the inside.

The autolock is fine, it's just really dumb to not have a easy way to override that. What if you suddenly realized you left some money in your pants? Do you really have to go through the back of the machine to turn it off? You can open the door to the washer in your house, so why the hell not in the laundromat? damnit, I cannot believe I am actually somewhat advocating for a lawsuit.

Common sense tells you there should be a sign on the washer stating "DO NOT PLACE CHILDREN OR ANIMALS INSIDE THE MACHINE WHILE IT IS IN USE".

Why was the kid put in there in the first place? Some weird form of discipline?

wow sooo sooo stupid.. hope the kid is okay..
anyways maybe the autolock is to prevent people from stealing clothes.. back in college there was a panty theif problem in our dorm .. where girls who left their clothes in the washer/dryer had their panties stolen..

The auto lock is there to keep little kids from wandering off opening every washer machine that is running from flooding the place. Not the machine fault. Clearly the parents.

People with common sense shouldn't need a sign to tell them this.
