If Otis Smith was serious about trading Dwight Howard, he could definitely field some offers that would easily trump what the Rockets would be able to give up. I think the Magic organization has been on the fence about the whole Dwight Howard fence and it isn't completely their fault per se. The Dwight Howard extension does change the circumstances a bit and more teams will probably be running this time around.

If I was Otis, I would be looking for young cornerstone pieces (of the Eric Gordon, James Harden type) to build my franchise around OR a star-caliber player (ala Carmelo Anthony, LaMarcus Aldrige) capable of putting fans in the seats. You can't get equal value for Howard unless you are getting a LBJ or a Derrick Rose in return, so you might as well go after the next best things. With that being said, we don;t exatly possess any of that on our roster.

Any Dwight Howard deal will mean the Magic will also want to tack on Hedo's 10M contract. So when matching salaries you have to take that into account. Martin+Scola+Dalembert gets you into the ballpark for starters.

Doesn't really apply to the Rockets since they are way under the cap. The Rockets basically have to send to the Magic a bit more than the $10 mil that Hedo makes. So Lowry + Dalember or KMart or Scola would work financially. Then add whichever youngster among Patterson, Parsons, CBud, etc. that Magic likes.

Of course, if the Rockets don't send enough salary back, they wouldn't have enough to sign DWill. But they will have more than enough to resign Dragic to any amount they like(he only counts $4mil against the cap as a cap hold).

That's how I see it, I'm beginning to think it will be a 3 or more team deal to trade Dwight Howard.

If Howard is smart, he would stay in Orlando, might as well. Brooklyn looks dead, if Deron Williams leaves. The only other intriguing places to go to are the Lakers, Clippers, Bulls, and Mavs - his choices. His non-choices, Denver or Portland (somehow keep LaMarcus Aldridge). Most of those teams aren't in the position to acquire without giving up significant pieces, he doesn't seem to understand that any team he goes to is not going to lose some of its quality players to acquire him. If it's not the Lakers or Clippers, it's going to take a 3rd team to get Howard.

He can make the most salary money in Orlando, he's the biggest fish in the pond, and does not need much for that team to reach the NBA Finals.

In reality for Orlando, if they feel they cannot get a really good player or future franchise player for Howard. They could simply let him expire and see what they could do in free agency, since they will have most of their salaries off the books. It really does not make sense to trade Howard, if you are only getting JV-level players in return.

I bet these predictions would make good comedy on other fan sites. Martin/Scola/Lowry/Patterson/Morris for Dwight Howard. That's kind depressing if you are Magic's fan.

That's one of the aspects I don't particularly like about Dwight Howard. He isn't exactly willing to compromise and this whole entire fiasco with the Magic is proof that he is a bit of a drama queen. Rumors were that there was a done deal to the Lakers, but he had a problem being Kobe's b!tch. He pretty much wants it all-- the big city, bright lights, being THE man, championship contender.

I could possibly see him potentially going to the Nets after the 2012/2013 season via Free Agency. Hypothetically, if the Nets land a Top 3 pick this year, they could potentially trot out a starting lineup that includes Deron Williams, Gerald Wallace, Top 3 pick, and Dwight Howard. I'm not exactly sure how Brook Lopex fits into the picture, but maybe the Nets would be able to unload him for some quality pieces. I guess it really hinges on whether or not the Nets can land one of the Top 3 picks this year.

If Howard comes to Houston, it will more than likely come in the form of a trade. With that being said, we don't exactly have the most attractive pieces. Id we were to somehow miraculously land Howard via trade, we will have most likely traded away everything just short of Daryl Morey himself, and I can't see how being in a rebuilding process is going to keep him in a Rockets uniform in the long haul. Sure, we might have some salary cap space, but players aren't exactly lining up to play for the Rockets. After we've traded for Howard, are roster will be so depleted that we would pretty much be resemble -- well, we'd be fantastically bad. I think the Howard coming to Houston thing is a bit of a pipe dream at this point, but it's simply my opinion. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens this off-season. It would really suck if we went 0 for "who knows how many stars we've pursued" and came up empty-handed again this off-season. Those Toyota Center seats aren't going to fill themselves up.

I think if the Rockets even have the chance to go after Hibbert, they should throw the max at him. He is young, big, talented, and by all accounts has a good head on his shoulders.

Talented big men don't grow on trees, he can be a difference maker at both ends of the floor. Compared to a lot of the big men in this league, 4 years and $55 million is a steal. If a player of Brendan Haywood can command roughly $10 mill a year for the next 4 years, Hibbert deserves the $12 million he'll be due with the max. End of story.

    Yeahhhhh like alwayZZ.

Which superstar movement did we facilitate again?

Oh right - none. Yet you're stupid enough to think that Morey wants everyone else to get a superstar and not us JUST BECAUSE the media talks about us being possible facilitators.

Magic just fired SVG an Otis Smith. Not trying to jump to conclusions, but it sounds like they want to keep Dwight.

My guess is that the ownership will want to give it till the trade deadline Feb 2013 and let the new GM/ Coach do what they can to put a team around Dwight that keeps him in Orlando.

Either way, its not surprising that both are gone regardless of their stance on trading or not trading Dwight, but for some reason it just feels like Orlando's ownership is going to do everything they can to keep him until the trade deadline.

Why would they want to go through that again? The CEO Alex Martins, iirc, said they're not going through that again. We'll see.

I wonder if they're trying to complete clear the house of anything from the Howard era- players, staff etc. Start completely anew.

Did I get this wrong, or did Alex Martins just pretty much say either Dwight signs an extension or we'll trade him?

I'm not watching or listening but saw across the twitter feed: Martins said something to the effect of Dwight needs to decide where his future lies.

I think he pretty much said that a couple of weeks ago. Sign an extension or else...

Yup. He was asked if the plan was to build around Dwight and Martins said something along the lines of "we're having conversations with Dwight and his representatives [...] and it's time for Dwight to decide where his future lies".
