well you wouldn't be able to tip less if the service sucked.

also, then i guess you have no problem with gratuity added on automatically?

restaurants would jack up prices 15%-20% when in reality they just need to raise prices 5-10% imo to cover the cost from $2.50 to minimum wage. so the restaurants wind up with more money. meanwhile your food which goes into your stomach are now being handled by a minimum wage waiter with absolutely no incentive to make sure things are handled properly and quickly.

I really don't see how this would help anybody.

I agree with the other posters that I would do away with tipping in the US if service industry workers were paid better and also if we had universal health care.

Having spent a lot of time in Singapore and Hong Kong where you don't tip I haven't noticed much of a difference in service compared to the US.

a 15% tip is definitely not mandatory nowadays at all, and yes, the OP is a dumbass for not realizing that waiters' wages are around 2$ hourly in Texas, you are indeed a cheap b*stard, sorry.

I actually wouldn't mind if we went to a French style of tipping with servers making a good wage and the service and tax is included in the price on the menu. Then if the service is excellent, you leave a couple of coins as a sign of appreciation, not really for the monetary value.

While technically true, the wage is usually something like $2 an hour PLUS tips. I think the restaurant is supposed to bring the wage up to minimum wage if the total amount of tips earned is not enough to = minimum wage however.

The reasons you usually don't hear of waiters or waitresses complaining that much is that they usually make significantly more than minimum wage, especially at decent restaurants.

I went through a drive through the other day to pick up lunch, and there was a tip line on my credit card receipt (which I had to sign). Blew my mind.

yeah -- sometimes I eat at a Thai place in the food court for lunch, and there's a freaking tip line on there. It's a mall food court -- I'm not going to tip you!

Would it be polite to tip with coins? Say maybe $3-4 in quarters and dimes?

    Stupid post is stupid.

I don't know what a 'Romneyian' is, but I am a conservative, and I tip %20 or if I find the service bad, I will only leave 10-15%.

So, it's fun to talk nonsense crap about people you don't know! Woohoo!

Me personally I think Mcdonalds and all these other fast food joints have ruined proper etiquette and hospitality and set the bar really low for how you should act in other public fool places.. You don't always have it your way, and when you walk into a certain restaurant certain rules apply...
Besides real men cook at home, same rules apply for sex.. If you don't know how to cook, then you don't know how to Fock, lol...
What a bunch of girls, whining about tipping or not to tip, who gives a fock???
You nerds do realize that they have this thing called a hot pocket right?? You go to the grocery store in the freezer section and buy these hot pockets, take it home, heat it in the microwave and you're done.. No tipping needed...
