I agree with you -- the media completely trashes Asian men unfairly. (and I'm not even asian). If you can even find an Asian man in a movie (rare), they are playing a Leslie Chow role in the hangover (they even named him "Leslie"?? are you kidding me) making fun of his small penor and being feminine-like. I'm surprised there isn't more outrage over this
This thread is very full of fail. I am no fan of Zuckerberg but I credit him with marrying someone who he has known for years long before he was Man of the Year and who on her own is very accomplished, degree from Harvard and Medical degree from USF.
That was true years ago and was a big issue when I was in college in the 1990's. Things though have changed a fair amount since those days and actors like Daniel Day Kim, Chow Yun Fat, John Cho and Mark Dacascos have made male Asians legitimate sex symbols where it is accepted to see them with non-Asian woman. Even Yao Ming and Jeremy Lin have helped to change that impression. A lot of the posters here including some Asian posters seem to be still locked into the racial views regarding Asian males and sex appeal that were prevalent in Enter the Dragon. The African-American is portrayed with an insatiable sexual appetite, the white guy as discriminating in his taste (quality of quantity) and the Asian guy as having no interest in sex.
Just to add I've dated a couple of white girls who had what would be considered yellow fever. One of my GF's would practically drool over Chow Yun Fat.
I think John Cho is only known in the US. Not sure about the rest. I don't even know who the Asian Daniel Day Lewis is.

Fairly working class, professional types like doctors, engineers, and later IT types etc. The ones who could get by on sex appeal, looks and suave normally moved to the urban centers of their home countries where they had it made. This is particularly true in Eastern Europe, France, India (their film industry is very popular) and Australia. Striking local beauties like Ingrid Chauvin wouldn't dream of leaving a sophisticated, cultured society for the jungle. And the big cities in Europe and India provide this comfort, whereas it's only the worker bee who's had to really uproot everything and leave home for America. That's why you see guys like John Chong and Kal Penn in Hollywood as opposed to brooding sex symbols. (ingrid chauvin)
On the topic of Zuckerberg, I'm happy for him and think he's going to have a great family. Not surprised to see all the 99%ers commenting about petty things that no one gives a flying **** about. At the end of the day, that's what separates the 1% from the rest of you guys. An ability to see the big picture. An ability to look past the trivial and see what really matters. Not giving a damn. Mental agility, sharpness, focus, dedication. Hahaha. Isn't this world beautiful.
Isn't it great that by marrying Zuckerberg this lady who nobody on here knows, and who's never done a thing to harm anyone on this site or any others, opens herself up to a bevvy of insults and put downs for no real reason?
i agree that things have been changing in the past 5-10 years in regards to the portrayal of asian men in the media. unfortunately for the generation of asian women who have already hit their late 20s and early 30s, it is too late. its very hard to get a woman to change the preferences shes had since she first hit puberty.
One of my friends works for Zuckerberg's dad (dentist) in New York. Mark's girl needed a root canal, so she went to the office there a few months ago. I heard she was a great girl...not sure why people hate for the sake of hating.
Those are Clutch Fans (members for ya), so delusional and out of touch, to the point that some of them actually think Dwight Howard is coming to Houston. Zuckerberg actually picked someone with class and is not seemingly out looking for fame ... wish some athletes and rappers would take some cues from that, instead settling for each others sloppy seconds. Moreover, she's not as unattractive as some posters make her seem to be, if at all. I always get the sense of here that alot of posters have supermodels/video vixen/magazine model types for wives and girlfriends. "Yeah, right..."
To extent that it confirms free speech, yes. To further extent that it trivializes the need for people to treat routine social agreements like movie premiers; even yesser.
a whiny man is unattractive no matter what race he is. people are attracted to who they're attracted to. hotballa, or any asian man who apparently has some sort of inferiority complex, or a white guy whining about how white chicks like black guys, can't change that by whining about it.
the truth can definetely be misconstrued as whining by parties directly affected by it. for instance, when i started talking about this, i focused on those white men who fetishize asian women. somehow it turned into me "whining" about asian women when all i did was make a few simple statements about a specific segment of asian women within the asian women-white men relationship sub-group. an asian woman who fetishizes white men because of their status in our society will ultimately get what she wants because she has a vagina and she is asian. she will do whatever she has to to fit in with the white male side because deep inside shes pissed or ashamed that she was born asian and not white. she will think about getting the double eyelid surgery and probably breast surgery as well. any conversations about her ethnicity will be shrugged off or ignored. in short she will forget everything about herself to fit in with the white male's side. an asian women with this kind of fetish will always put herself in a far more unbalanced relationship than normal because she is always the compromiser due to the simple fact that she wasnt born white. at the end of the day i really dont care if im called whiny for noticing this. acknowledgement of these truths would hurt a lot more than simply ignoring it and calling people whiny b's for saying them. i expect that.
the reason for the lack of outrage is because most asians fall into the eager to please category. thats probably the reason we are thought of as the model minority, the perfect sidekick. you dont see robin tugging on batman's cape. when white folks got upset over the spaniards chinky eye poster for the 08 olympics, it was self-hating asians who led the charge against making a big deal out of it. it is frustrating to see it happen all the time. probably explains my respect for the al sharpton and jesse jacksons of the world. i know i know
